Big Draw Draws To An End

My Focus on the political scene came through a lot...See Today's drawing
in the middle of this collage.
I saw this woman today, the one in the lower left corner done in BLUE at the beauty salon today when I was getting my hair done. I'd never seen her before and didn't realize people still wore
this hair do. Amazing!!!
Dolls, Cows. Little girls, and Women Ink and colored pencils I enjoyed it all...what a good challenge this was! And I enjoyed watching the progress in all of your drawings as well. Next Month is Art Every Day! Happy Halloween, and Remember to Vote Early if you can, or Just Vote!

Big Draw #30 and more Fall Walking

Big Draw #30...I have no idea who she is...she just popped out of my head! More walking in fall and signs of Halloween everywhere! I loved seeing this corn growing in someones front yard right near the sidewalk!
I like that bumpy one in front center.
Happy Halloween Tomorrow!

Finding Fall on a Walk With Lynn & #29 of Big Draw

Can you hear these leaves crunching beneath my feet? I love this sound. And since rain is on it's way, today and tomorrow are the days to listen to my feet walking down the street.... Today I went looking for signs of fall. This bit of color is on a tree around the corner from my office. We don't have forests of color the way you do in the eastern states, but maybe that makes the little bits all the more appreciated.
I've parked by these leaves every day this week and kept reminding myself to bring my camera to work so I could show them to you...today I remembered...
And then there was this lone red leaf laying on the huge branch of this tree as I started my noontime walk today. Sweet?
Happy Fall!
****************************
We are winding down the Big Draw for the month of October
and this is my 29th drawing for that challenge.
A self portrait of a younger me?
The eye brows may look familiar to those who know me well,
the hair is familiar too...other than that, well,
I knocked off about 30 years I'd say...
Okay, a younger me...with fuller lips.
Done from memory.

Big Draw #28 AND A GIFT ARRIVES FROM U.K.

Big Draw Drawing #28! I found her in a clothing catalogue. And then I got my mail today!!!!!
This small folded up square pocket unfolds to let the bag out! See how perfect her seams are...and the lining.
And this clever label tag hangs from it!
And it has an outside pocket, into which the larger bags folds up into to store
in ones purse/handbag. And here it is! Am I lucky or what?
From: Jan's Musings: http://jansmusing.blogspot.com/
Jan, thank you so very much. Today the truly lovely bag you made and "gave away in your giveaway" arrived in my mail box! It is awesome. So perfectly sewn, love the color, and so functional.

Big Draw#27 Contented Cows

I found these cows in a Psychology Today magazine that came to my office today...I enjoyed being at work ...and enjoyed my walk at noontime, which was on top of my treadmill walking and crunches earlier in the morning. I can't believe how much better/energized I feel after I exercise. I noticed some leaves turning color here finally. Last week the temp. was in the 80's but finally it's started to cool down...still I hardly need a sweater. Fall is just beginning here.
The cows are relaxed and could care less about who wins the election.
They are not hurting from the financial crisis either.
Sometimes I think it might not being a bad life...being a cow. Feel free to copy out the second picture and color it yourself! ;-) Lynn feeling contented as a cow

Pumpkin Carving and Apple Picking Day!

Big Draw #26 goes to my grandchildren. They drew. I take a break... GD drew this and told me: "This is your house Grandma. This is your door and your window, This is your bedroom, your bed...the (two things on either end of the bed are:) "things to keep you safe..." next is a pumpkin and Halloween decorations and three more windows. (We do live in a two story house). ;-) This next one is the work of my GS with no explanations...
And this was a collaborative effort of the three of us. GS cut out the pieces, GD glued them on the larger piece of paper and I doodled on top of the pieces. Wa-la! A collage is born!
And then we carved pumpkins and picked apples with three other young families from their neighborhood; all toll we were seven children and seven adults.
We spent the day at my daughter's home yesterday having the second year in a row of pumpkin carving and apple picking in their backyard. The kids had their faces painted, we got tattoos too, a good lunch, delicious apples to eat, and fun in the sun had by all. After the neighbors and their children went home I stayed and played with my grandchildren. We played a memory game for which my GD made up rules and according to her we were "to discuss the pictures on the cards" and we did. They also placed them around the room for me to find and return to them. We played Polly Pocket dolls and all her dolls had "to go to the hospital, because bees came by and got into the dolls mouths and stomachs and they had to miss school for a full year!" Later we sat and drew pictures together. It was a very fun day. And yes, they loved all the goodies I made for them!!! The little bears in their bags were a big hit.

Quilted Grand Daughter's Art; Big Draw #25 and thanks from SAM

A few weeks ago while babysitting, my four year old grand daughter and I had a bit of a skirmish over applying still more hand lotion to her after bath body that was already swimming in cream...it was time for teeth brushing, putting pajamas on, and story time but GD was asking for still more hand lotion. Grandma was tired and had reached her limit and set a limit and got a stubborn response from said four year old. Grandpa was called in to take over so I could deal with twin brother and get him ready for bed before I lost my cool and flipped my lid. The next morning my dear sweet agreeable (by then) GD handed me this drawing and said: "Grandma, This is You and Me!" Followed immediately with: "Will you quilt it for me?"[ The computer is not posting true colors here. The part that looks orange is really yellow/gold.]
So today I did.

Big Draw Day #25... ****************************************************************************** I heard from Sam. The Hawaiian shirt and collar place mats arrived. Sam said she loved them, it was a mixed bag emotionally, which I knew would be the case, happy memories mixed in with sadness. But she was very appreciative of my art work and endeavors. I'm glad she liked them. **********************************************************************************

Halloween Crafts; Big Draw #24; And Another Obama Fan

Tomorrow I'll be with my two youngest grand kids (age 4) at their pumpkin carving party. Well, this grandma does not go empty handed. I am making bags for treats for them. I found some goodies at the thrift stores today...four bears in costume. GS gets the ghost, as he has chosen to be a ghost for Halloween, and GD gets the Devil, well, because, she can sometimes...act like a little devil! ;-) I found the orange felt for the bags, the fall ribbon, and the white mesh fabric at the thrift store today...the black ribbon was from another quilt project, as is the fabric used for the pumpkins...fabric I used on my very very first quilt made in class 15 months ago! And the green stems are from their frog's feet from those costumes I made last year at Halloween!
These dolls were 75 cents each. Aren't they cute?
The third and forth bags will be for the kids next door. They will get the skeleton and the witch.
Big Draw Day 24: Another poncho girl. Don't ask about
her yellow forehead. I guess she has a touch of the jaundice. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ We met this gentleman in a gift shop in Wyoming this past summer. I asked his permission to snap his photo and told him I might blog it. He was fine with that. I felt it was a wonderful statement of someone who had been waiting a long time for The Dream to come true! ;-) (Me too!) Remember To VOTE!

Surprise Mail; Big Draw #23; Scarf in the making or wall hanging?; Finished Poncho

Look What CAME IN TODAY'S MAIL Today! Rebecca, from the blog The Difference A Year Makes, had a give-away and I entered and won this book! I used to read Shape Magazine years ago. The book looks great. I especially like that it has a lot of yoga poses with explanations of how to do them, as I'd like to add yoga to my current exercise routines. It's also full of very yummy looking healthy recipes. Thank you Rebecca, this is a very generous gift and I will use it. I do appreciate your generosity.
Today is the 23rd day of the Big Draw for the month of October. I am determined to keep going after the month ends as I see improvements and growth in my drawing. And ROOM for MORE IMPROVEMENT!!! ;-) This one was done very quickly this morning from a photo of my GD holding a doll I knit in her image for her. I may add color later. This started out to be a scarf...now I sort of like it right where it is as a wall hanging...or I may continue, what do you think?
Love those dropped stitches.
And here is the finished poncho I knit with ribbon yarn for my little grand daughter. All done in dropped stitches and knit stitches. Very easy. Very cute don't you think?

Big Draw #22 Oriental Girl in Poncho

Day 22 of the Big Draw...I had a break in my work day so I came home and drew this from my book of Poncho Patterns for young girls. This little girl is much prettier in the book, but I am drawing in ink and what goes on the paper stays on the paper... My little girl is still happy with her poncho. I'm really enjoying doing these drawings. It excites me to see what does come out of my pen and it is fun to do.

and then she drew....
Three Generations I have a soft spot in my heart for dolls and these soft dolls especially. Two have been sitting here for some time...the newest, Madeline on the left I found at the thrift store last weekend for $1.50, like new too. Little grand daughter will find them when she visits next. She likes to play with my dolls. These are sitting on a chair that I grew up with in my parents home. My mom needle pointed the seat.

Look what my son sent me tonight!

Look where Clematis is living...and note the bedding that just happens to be purple too! That is my beautiful daughter in law...My son must have taken this from the bed on his phone camera, as he is recouping from a minor surgery today. Thank you Dear Son. Heal quickly. ;-) Love, Mom

Big Draw #20 ... Sunday Knitting

I spent yesterday nursing a toothache, and knitting. I found this regularly $7.88 a skein ribbon yarn on sale for $1.49 a skein so got enough to make this little poncho for my 4 yr old grand daughter. She loves pink and I think she will love this soft nicely textured piece. I learned a new drop stitch, which wasn't as hard as I thought it would be and is fun to do. I skipped drawing yesterday...so here is a quickie done this morning while waiting for the dentist office to open and hopefully call and get an appointment. If I have enough yarn left over I'll make my daughter, her mom, a matching scarf. This drop stitch looks really good on scarves! ;-)

# 18 Big Draw drawing of first 4" purse and Second 16" purse

Okay, this is backwards, but if I put the photos in sequence to the story they won't enlarge for you. So, read down and then come back here for the final solution to my zipper problem. Rather than resort to Velcro I decided to try a loop and button. I used fabric from the tea towel edge and a very pretty star fish lavender button that matched exactly (old garage sale find, I have a box full of old buttons to choose from.). It amazingly keeps the whole thing closed nicely. Whatcha think?
Yesterday I made a first (for me) what should have been a 12" purse, cut down to a 4" purse, but the zipper works in that one after much struggling to make is behave! Same drawing but back of purse shown here. Today after finding some cute tea towels at an estate sale I came home and made this second bag (16" long). the zipper has yet to behave on this one, so I might add Velcro circles (Mims' suggestion) or snaps. But it's cute and could hold a lot of art supplies, you think? This is part of the bottom of the bag.
I told the man who was selling his grandmother's effects that I would take them
home and turn them into treasures. This is treasure #1.
Now go back to the top and see the finished item with button and loop again!
;-)
