More Animal Life on the Road and Fossil hunting in Wyoming
I drew this portrait of DH while he drove and then I painted it also while we were driving.
A couple we met in Kemmerer, Wyoming! They are there each time we come through.
As always we saw lots and lots of buffalo...
I spotted this black bear and DH got to see a grizzly up close, but I stayed in the car for that photo shoot!
And then we went fossil hunting. Here I am chipping away at a slab of limestone looking for fish fossils.
We both found some, but DH stayed the four hour mile and found the most. He is very proud as you can see. The fossils are over 50 million years old!!! We came home with a box full!
It's July 4th. We should be at Cris' in Oregon, and then at our old time friend Sam's a few miles from there to celebrate the fourth of July as is our tradition of many many years. Our second year without our dear friend Jim since his passing.
But we'll have fun nonetheless, and this brings the vacation to an end. Tomorrow we'll be back home. I'm sure I'll have more photos to post as the weeks go on.
Thanks for staying so interested. Hugs to all.
Lucky husband. I've always been fascinated by fish fossils. What a treasure.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun to fossil hunt. It must have been cool where you were. It is quite warm here. I like your sketch of your DH too. Happy 4th.
ReplyDeleteLooking for fossils strikes me as the most fun EVER. That is MY kind of vacation activity.
ReplyDeleteFantastic sketch of DH!
ReplyDeleteYup, I would also be in the car for the bear shot!!
Hunting for fossils sounds and looks like such fun. And you found some beauties! Hard to even wrap my mind around something that old.
Happy 4th.
Well we just said good bye awhile ago. It was really a lovely visit. Went WAY to fast.. I loved seeing those fish fossils in person. How cool is that. :) and I love the drawing you did of Fred. You can tell who it is. Thanks for the 'goodies' you brought me. I will post them soon.
ReplyDeleteHugs Cris

ReplyDeleteWhat a cool trip you are on!
ReplyDeleteAll these animals! Wow~! I would scream with excitement!
And those fossils!

Have a nice Sunday!
Those fossils are facinating - I never knew you could hunt for them anywhere. what fun!
ReplyDeleteHope you had a good time with Cris and your friends.
The painting you did of your hubby looks just like him!!! Neat fossils and bears and buffalo! How interesting and amazing!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to find the time to start reading about your trip from the beginning! We've probably crossed paths Lynn.
ReplyDeleteyesterday I spent a few hours at urgent care in CO from an unsuspecting passenger in the left cup of my bra who gave me one very nasty spider bite!
The doctor also said it resembles MRSA, the flesh eating bacterial infection so he loaded me up with 2 kinds of antibiotics. You can imagine how freaked out I was/am!
The good news is I think it looks better today, so that tells me it's most likely a bite.
Those fossils are wonderful...so perfect! And yo got to meet Cris, what fun!
Great photos too. Wow!
make it home safely.

Hi Happy Traveler,
ReplyDeleteI have really been enjoying all your travel photos and information. Thank you for letting me stow away in your suitcase. ;-)
Your picture of Fred is great! You are so talented.
Lynn.. I love the picture of you hunting for fossils. You look like a natural!
Great photos of the "aminals" as my children called them as toddlers. I'm especially fond of the bear.
I hope your 4th was as wonderful as you are.
Hugs,
TerBear
Wow Lynn, I am just catching up with all your trip photos! So cool! I would love to take a trip like this.
ReplyDeleteI have seen this "fossil hunting" on television and it looks so interesting. Your hubby is lucky to have found that one. Definately worthy of "shelf art".
Your felted and adorned pieces are really creative. How will you use them, or will you sell them as they are?
Those fossils rock...and seriously, no pun intended! LOVE them!
