It's spring-like in California! I sat in my backyard and drew the camellia bush that is in full bloom right now. This was for a Boot kamp assignment in Sketchbook Skool to draw nature! I used colored pencils and ink. Boot kamp is over. Now I await the next semester in April.
I'm still drawing at Tacos Jalisco at least once a week! It was fun to get the patrons (top) and the owners and staff (bottom)! I'll be there again today and will capture who is there!
Another Boot Kamp assignment was to draw water! Not an easy task. And running water is hard in California, as we are in a terrible drought. You can see how guilty I felt letting this Faucet run. Luckily I draw quickly so it wasn't on all that long, honest!
You know I share another blog, Paper, Paint, Pencils & Pens, with Ann Hyde from the UK. There we draw to a new theme every two weeks. This is from the assignment to draw The Place Where We Grew Up. I decided to draw my old neighborhood. I drew my childhood girlfriends houses across the street. The first one was Joann's house!
This house was where Marion lived:
And this house was where my very, very best friend, Patty, lived. We stayed friends for 73 years.
All my friends from the old neighborhood are gone now. But I have sweet memories from those years together.
We are looking for new artists at Paper, Paint, Pencils & Pens, who want to draw with us there! All artists from very beginners to more advanced are welcome. Just hop over to the blog via this link and fill out the contact form on the top of the side bar. We'll send you an invitation that then allows you to post your art on the blog! It's fun. I hope you will join us. And if you contributed in the past but haven't in a while, we hope you will do so again soon.
I love my days off from work, as we have time to drop in Starbucks to draw. I love capturing as many folks as I can. I got ten on this day!
I like letting my drawings speak for themselves:
Sometimes I experiment with new pens & paper. This time it was a white gel pen and a black calligraphy pen on tan paper!
Meanwhile, back to Starbucks on a different day!
And back to my home town, Vallejo for Paper, Paint, Pencils & Pens! My teenage hangout Pizza parlor!
And the little library up the street from where we lived on Amador street:
And this was the day I captured 18 people at Starbucks in ONE HOUR!
I amaze myself with how much I draw in a week! My posting here really tells me just how much I am working/playing at being an artist! I'd like to recommend Sketchbook Skool again! It's the most fun I have had in a month of Sundays! You can email morgan@sketchbookschool.com and ask for the FREE KLASS to get started and see how you like it. You can also ask her to be let into the "playground" or Sketchbook Skool Facebook Page to see what everyone is doing there art-wise and to meet other artists from all over the world!
Or you can just sign up for the next semester of klasses at SketchbookSkool.com!
Enjoy the art at Paint Party Friday, and Sunday Sketchers via the icons on my side bar!
Thanks for stopping by, I love you visits here and appreciate your comments. They mean a lot to me.

ReplyDeleteYes, Ann, I do fill lots of sketchbooks. The one I started in Janurary of this year just for the people in cafes drawings is half filled!
DeleteYou are amazing with the number of sketches you do in a week! These are great especially the ones of the people. Love the life drawing sketches too!
ReplyDeleteThanks Joan, Glad you like my peeps! Me too! ;-)
Deletewow you have been very productive. So sorry about your best friend.
ReplyDeleteWhat a super array of sketches, etc. Happy PPF.
ReplyDeleteWow, you have been really busy. I always love to see what you capture when you're out. I'm still too scared to try and do people. I've done a Sketchbook Skool class and they are great. Your water sketch is just fabulous.
ReplyDeleteYour camelia is gorgeous and a new direction for you. Great sketches!
ReplyDeleteWow - you have been SO busy! Wonderful work - and I love the new white gel pen!! Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteIt amazes me the amount of work you reliza in just one week, it's incredible and also some scenes are incredibly vivid. Saludos
ReplyDeleteLynn, you have an amazing array of art for us this week. I always enjoy seeing the people you sketch at the restaurants. The houses were so California, not like the Williamsburg VA type around here. Your post about Patty touched my heart. I know how much that loss meant. I remember reading it b/c it was about the same time that I lost my dh. Keep up the wonderful artwork.
ReplyDeleteAMAZING!!!!! I love your work!!!
ReplyDeleteWow just wow you are truly a full time artist Lynn...these are great...the houses are so nostalgic and a wonderful tribute to old neighbors and good friends!... Good idea! Very inspirational! I love how you keep Patty's spirit alive...I bet she's looking down on you with a huge smile!!
ReplyDeleteHugs Giggles
Wow.
ReplyDeleteJust wow.
So many fabulous drawings and artful expressions ~ I just love them all. But ... the water ... something about that really resonates with me and is just fun, too!
Wow 18 people in one hour, now that is something Lynn, Can you remember bac when you first started drawing people?
ReplyDeleteQuite unbelievable. Is this a world record?
ReplyDeleteYour blog is always a delight. You amaze EVERYONE with how much you draw. I loved seeing the neighborhood you grew up in and your friend's house. Your drawings are a treasure.
ReplyDeleteYou are a hoot Lynn and you're in trouble because instead of painting a Zebra cartoon I'm reading your blog. (Ha ha) Your narrations to your drawings read like a book and I'm having more fun here than painting Zebra. (Don't tell him I said that.) Absolutely loved that drawing at the top of your page of people standing in line with the one naked chick. Cheers-Darlene
ReplyDeleteI won't tell Zebra either, Darlene; and I am thrilled that you came and enjoyed your stay! Do come again ... and again ... and again... ;-)
DeleteWhat wonderful flowers! You are so adept at drawing people from life, it's very impressive!
