Blog Time Time for New Art

It was a special week this week. It was Grandparents Day at our middle grandchildren's school. (we have five, these are the twins who are in 7th grade now) The older young woman in the top photo is their cousin, Abbie, who was visiting from Boston and joined us at the school. I drew her and our grandson, Aaron, later in the evening at their home. I drew Yael too, but neglected to upload that drawing.
It was a fun day and evening.

 

Later in the week I did my now ritual drawings at Starbucks, and gave them their stories.

And I continue to draw a portrait a night using photos on Sktchy App on my iPhone.

These are really fun to draw. I love all the different expressions I find there.

On Monday there were long lines at Starbucks ...

 ... and people on technology per usual.

and in the evening there is time for more Sktchy Portrait  drawing.

On Thursday we go to Barnes & Noble Café where I find great sales and wonderful people to draw, some for the first time like these two ...

#Sktchy30 Days 1-30

I skipped two weeks of blogging, too busy (and forgetful) with other things.
I finished Sktchy30 drawing a portrait and night for 30 nights. They could have been done in the daytime, but that's when I draw in coffee houses like Starbucks and Barnes & Noble Café.
I have lots of those, but none posted today. Will chose the best of them for another post another week. I may have posted some of these earlier in April, but I wanted a place to put them all together.  So if you are a weekly visitor scroll down until you find the ones you haven't yet seen, or enjoy them all again.

 

I did a few Free Draws. This one is our eldest grandson.

 

                                            

And this is our second grand child, his sister ...

 

And our youngest grandchild, their little sister. I'd drawn our other two (twin) grandchildren last month and posted them here.

                

 The folks at Sktchy are great about loading photos of themselves with a wonderful array of expressions to choose from.

 

Geri drew me and I drew her back. Then she and I did some collaborative work on Sktchy.

This was also my first *PICKED portrait by Sktchy! Boy am I proud!

 

Jordan was my first attempt using pencil.

 

And Maya was my second pencil drawing.

                              
 And then back to using ink. Do you recognize Mike from "Breaking Bad" and "Better Call Saul"?

Back to using my Copic markers. The pink background was an accident of my photo taking at night with poor lighting.

 

 

My first of two drawings of Paul this month.

 

She had light reflecting on her glasses.

Oh, and she recognized herself when she saw my drawing.

Now that is the highest compliment for me!

                                 

                                       This is my second drawing of Paul this month. In the first he is wearing the red Fez.

 

 

 

I got to practice my cross hatching on Kosa. It's from a new Klass I am taking in Sketchbook Skool called Exploring.

                               

                                 Elizabeth is another Draw Back. It's great fun when someone draws you and you can return the favor.

And last but not least, Danica, who I drew last night, on April 30th. I will continue drawing portraits from Sktchy, and I will continue drawing in my urban sketching journals as well. I hope you enjoyed your visit today and will return again to see more.

Some of you know I have been the Co. Admin. of the blog Paper, Paint, Pencils & Pens for several years, a blog where other artists can join in drawing to a theme. I have decided to drop out as Admin. and have turned over the running of that Blog and ownership to Beverly Baird. I hope you will still go there whether or not it continues to show up on Paint Party Friday's list and support all the artists there. Thank you for your support in the past when it was my blog I shared with Ann Hyde.

Urban Sketches, Portraits and My 200th Portrait for Sktchy!

 

 

 

Today we went to Barnes & Noble Café where I drew patrons. This lady was with a guy, but he kept getting up and leaving and coming back and leaving and finally they left together. Just so you know.

 

 

She came in and ate a nice little piece of cake with her coffee and then got up and left.

But stayed long enough to draw her. I'm fast now so they don't have to stay long.

 

My husband was my next victim (or model) as he sat across the room from me drinking his coffee and reading the newspaper. I caught the guy above him too.

 

 

This couple had the honor of being the last drawing in the art journal I started in March and finished on Wednesday. April, 12, 2017. Took just a bit over one month to fill it.

 

This was a day I chose a bag of markers and crayons from my bag to use different that my usual tools. Something for variety sake.

 

Another day, another Starbucks. Long lines, oh yes, it was on Sunday last.

These guys were there too. When they got done they shook hands in a sort of knocking knuckles thing and each turned his hat the opposite direction. Not at all sure it that was significant of anything, or if it was totally unconscious acts on both of their parts. Your guess is as good as mine.

And then there are the Sktchy portraits I am doing one a night. The challenge is Sktchy30, one a day for each day in April. But I am sure I will continue it.

 

We are drawing to themes. This one was the use of a quote.

This one was "Storytelling".

 

This one was using a medium I don't generally use. So I chose water soluble pencils and pastel crayons, which I had not used in a very long time.

 

The theme here was "frustration". I thought this guy was a teenager and we all know how frustrating that can be. However, he later told me he isn't one. He looked very young in his photo.

 

Do you recognize her? She's me. Theme was "Selfie". I did three.

 

 

And my (DRUM ROLL) 200th portrait done this evening is to the them of a cause that matters to me. I chose Black Lives Matter!

This one was last week at Barnes & Noble Café.

And last but not least the Garden ladies, or so I dubbed them. They were really enjoying themselves and me drawing them.
