Spring in Textile Art and Spring Walk Flowers.

I can't stop taking photos of my NYP...wanting to treasure and save all the details before I send it off. This is the top part of one flower surrounding a family photo (person) in this part of this Memory Quilt. And this is another flower in the garden....Today I went to the UPS store to see about boxes for packing this up. It's really hard. I want to send it off, and another part of me does not want to part with it...yet. Do you feel this way when you make art? For me it's like giving birth to something special and it's hard to give it up even when you know it's going to a good home, to someone who wants it.
These Bloomin' Tuesday Real Flowers were captured in our walk a few weekends ago in Benicia.
I love the view through them to the water in the background.
And this beauty!
Does anyone know her name?
I would love to buy a plant of this variety to plant in my own yard.
It blooms in the yard of a little house near my office
and I can stand for long periods of time looking at it on my
noontime walks.
It is THAT BEAUTIFUL.
Wishing you a happy, peaceful spring Tuesday!

  2. Lynn - show the leaves of that plant, it almost looks like a rose to me - maybe a rosa rugosa. But I need to see the leaves.

  3. your quilt is beautiful. i understand about letting go of it. you have spent so much time and energy on it, it would be nice to get to look at it completed for awhile before sending.

Mim, I know nothing but even though I too thought rosa rugosa, on further looking the flower petals are too pointy and the rugosa center is different. I think.

  4. I have no clue on the flower. I would say a peony but it isnt time for them to bloom. Pretty little thing. Love Love Love what I see of your quilt you give us peeks of. I like to keep something for awhile to enjoy the finish after putting so much work in on it. You put so much into this NYP & its been hard work getting to the end of project that you NEED to enjoy the ending for a little while to comprehend that it IS done and you will have to be moving on now.

  5. Hi Lynn yes I know what you mean about parting with art work sometimes you have to have the piece around for a while before you let it go ...almost saying goodbye to it in a strange way ....I think it's probably because you have put your heart and soul into it and it's become part of your life....Lorna

  6. I have had an item or two that I didn't want to immediately part with. When you put so much energy into a project it is difficult to let go. Just think of how the person that receives this will feel. They will feel so blessed. The flowers are gorgeous. Can't help you with an id. It must be something that grows in a warmer zone than where I live. Cheers.

  7. Hi Lynn,

I love all the embroidery on the quilt. I can imagine how difficult it is to let go when you have put so much of your heart into its making. This is what makes the gift that much sweeter!

I believe the purple flowers are liatris and I am guessing that the single pink flower might be a Rose of Sharon. (or one of her cousins) :-) I have one in my yard, but the petals are more of a single layer than double.

Be sure to take lots of pictures of the final quilt before you send it to New York. This will be fun for us to see, and great for you as well when you begin to miss it.

    Hugs,
    TerBear

PS "We've been blessed to be a blessing." You were blessed with amazing talent, and you in turn bless others with your creations!

  10. We call this a hibiscus flower. Its latin name is Hibiscus Syriacus. Further googling revealed that it is called rose or sharon in English.

  11. Hi Lynn, Just resurfacing after a month of mayhem. I understand completely. I have a hard time parting with my original pieces. I like to keep them for a while and enjoy them then I can pass them on.
