    1. Might have something to do with the fact that I have been finding and buying cool summer clothes in the thrift stores here in town this week.
      ;-) becoming more clothes conscious...;-)

  7. I love all of your drawings but the one with the four ladies reminded me of my friends. We love to meet for coffee.

  8. All your drawings are delightful, but the top one bothers me; it's the first one that has made me uneasy. The casing on the window behind the diner looks like it is coming out of her head and coming forward. It's way too black. It needs to be paled out so it's a lot less noticeable. Sorry if I hurt your feelings, but what a friends for if they can't be frank.

    1. Dear LW. You absolutely have NOT hurt my feelings at all. I appreciate this sort of critique. To be perfectly honest with you I can now see that I truly did over do that black door casing. I was doodling over it with ink long after I had painted the picture. My paint had gone out of line a bit and I used a black ink pen to bring it into a straighter line. Silly me. It was not necessary to do and I just OVER DID it. I know that things in back should be lighter than things in front. ;-) but I show all I do, warts and all. Now can I really lighten it up? Or will I make a bigger mess of things? I will see.

  17. Amigo (in blue) plopped down in the chair, hot en sweaty from his commute-on-foot to grab lunch. He works in the ER (therefore the scrubs) and is actually a well-respected physician. But it is a stressful job, and to keep himself from visiting his workplace as an angina patient himself, he likes to run for fun in the hot, hot sun during his lunch break. The hat is for sun protection, yes, but mostly it is a disguise. People do have this habit of peppering white-coats with random Doctor-questions, or sharing their latest ailments while ordering lunch. The hat makes him look more like a misplaced cowboy, and people are not generally interested in a misplaced-cowboy-without-horse. But he is getting uneasy. He spotted a lady in the corner pretending to write in her book, but she keeps glancing his way... maybe she can see through his disguise? Or maybe she is sketching him? How very unlikely. Why would anyone do that? Ahh, here is the food. Returning his hat to his head, he exists quickly yet quietly... Dr. Amigo incognito...

  19. Better late than never, Lynn!!

    Sketch one
First woman - Don't look now, but you've got a black casement growing out of your head
Second woman - I know, Lynn slipped with the pen...I'd better get it off before Linda sees it.
    First Woman - Too late!

    Sketch 2
"You won't believe this, but I was sitting here waiting for my order, when a poodle cycled in. Bought a hot dog ... and then tied this hat around my neck!!

Sketch 3 Middle Woman : I always use this karate chop to cut up my food.

Sketch 4 Did you hear that? Lynn ordered in Spanish. That's the second customer this week ..... the first was a poodle

  20. Oh John, I love your humour! I am laughing so hard. You guys are great today with these stories! I wonder if I can get your and the other's permission to put them into my book, when I finally self publish. Or would other readers 'get it' or do you sort of have had to "be there" in blog land following the thread to get it? LOL LOL LOL ROTFLOL! I can't stop laughing. I just read them again!!!!!!!!!!

  22. I think Hat Guy is a dancer, there on a break from rehearsal. He knows wear one color elongates the silhouette. Regular folks just can't relax like that. The hat is just for style.
The three women have just come from a charity committee meeting. The one in the flora dress orders carbs, but never eats them.

  23. I enjoy the stories your paintings tell. I have a story for you....a girl sitting eating hershey kisses with her little mini aussie sitting in front of her wishing she had some too. This story is true, it's of me and my pup. Poor little pup, no chocolate for her. ;) Happy PPF!

  25. Lovely watercolors Lynn!
Hahaha it is nice to see how they evoke all these stories.
I guess that is what art is all about, triggering something in the observer :)
    Have a nice weekend ♥

  30. This is such a great post! Love the stories with the art! You are very talented, with a unique style! Very refreshing...I started imagining little quips...the women in black " I'm pregnant and don't know who the father is?" The guy in the hat, "It's so hard being a cowboy" Third one, woman in yellow," It rose so big, I buttered it up, but it barely fit in the loaf pan!" She's definitely a bread baker!!
The last one," Darn I wish they didn't make us wear a pink uniforms, I think I need a smoke!"

    Have a great week!

  33. Wow, such creativity in such a short time. Life drawing does that to you, forces you to get the drawing down asap before the model moves or wanders off. makes for some lovely moving linework. I like what you've done here, your linework is fab and the dash of colour sets it all off beautifully.

    Best wishes,
    Liz

  34. Picture #1..blonde woman says to redheaded friend. "I was so tired, so the plastic surgeon put this large wind up handle out the top of my head. my husband has to stand on the kitchen counter every morning and wind me up for the day. But I have to be careful in a stiff wind not to tip over. It is kind of like wearing those head dresses they wear in Las Vegas!
#2 What is the matter with these people!? Why did they give me two tiny glasses of water instead on one glass? I ordered to go, so they know no one is joining me. Why would they want to have to wash two glasses? Even these two small glasses are not enough water, can't they see how I was sweating under my hat? My hair is sopping wet. I need about 3 really big glasses of water, while I wait for my food.
#3 Quick girls hold up your hands to try to cover-up the important areas of our gray haired friend. She has been walking in her sleep lately and came here nude! Maybe she could borrow your large yellow bag to hide behind while we walk in back of her so no one will see!
#4 Gee, every time I have to walk back here to get a cup, I hit my head on that darn copper samovar! My head is as bloody as my red hat! And some times the pots knock into each other and then knock some of those dried peppers into the hazel nut coffee. Those poor patrons never know what hit them! The indigestion is so bad they probably think they caught some dreaded viral infection!
