On Thursday I had lunch at Taco Jalisco's (again)...
This lovely family of six sat directly across from me. I was facing them as if I was sitting at the bottom end of their table (page)
I know, I know there are seven at the table. For some reason when I finished drawing the dad and two daughters on the left side of the table and then moved over to draw the daughters on the right side of the table I pushed them too close together. Daughter #3 on the right was actually sitting directly across from the daughter on the left side bottom. So I added a little friend for her instead. She is very very little, but if she finishes all of her lunch she might grow bigger very soon. They were all very sweet, sharing food, eating. And at the end the dad got up to pay and came back with a hand full of candies for them. The third daughter on the right started taking way more than her share of the sweets and then they started to squabble. But even that was done sweetly. They all left happy I believe!
I had made an appointment at the salon for my self at 12:30 noon on Friday. I got there a little early so I sat in my car outside and drew the outside of the building. See the big window on the left here with the name of the salon. And then I went inside. While I was waiting for my person I drew the shelving unit at the end of the hallway that held all those tiny bottles of nail lacquer.
Of course when I got home I painted them both bringing them more to life. I don't wear colored nail polish (except for a very rare occasion like a wedding perhaps), but I sure enjoyed painting all those little bottles with pretty colors.
They had made a mistake booking my appointment. They said it was down for Saturday! Oh no!
But my person was there (eating her lunch in the back) and she came out to "do me" anyway...
I left with much neater looking eyebrows!
The better to see you with my dears!
;-)

Forgive me if I seem to be ignoring you, Lynn ... life is really getting in my way. Glad to see you are still bursting with creative energy!!
ReplyDeleteJohn I have seen on your blog that you are busy with a university class. I fully understand that it would take you away from blog land.
DeleteThanks for coming by today. It's always great to hear from you!
I thought for a minute you couldn't count Lynn! lol. It must have been nice to go to Mirage Salon and be pampered, but all those nail colours would have so tempted me to painting them....then I would have needed to buy more watercolours, I'm sure not to have had the right ones!
ReplyDeleteAnn it was fun even for a quick ten minute eyebrow job! ;-) And yes those bottles of polished screamed to be drawn and painted!!!
DeletePS. I can neither count nor spell! ;-))
Do they know you are sketching them? do you ask people if they mind? here in London it would be considered rude.Love the art anyway- all of it!
ReplyDeleteSoul, I do not think they know I am drawing them. I pile my basket of chips and water glass in front of my drawing pad. I may be kidding myself, but thus far only three people have encountered me/caught me at it. They were all very okay with what I was doing, although the last person said I made her look like a man. She had very short hair! I hope I am not being considered rude. Not my intention. Glad you love what I am doing. xoxo
DeleteI really enjoy your sketches. Then when you paint them they seem to come to life. How adorable, even when you make an extra person!
ReplyDeleteSo glad Elizabeth (and Bluebeard!)...;-)))
DeleteI was going to ask what you eat at Jaliscos...and now I see...fish tacos!!! I just had my first fish taco, and also some shrimp tacos within the last 2 months, and I LOVE them!!!!
ReplyDeleteYes Julie, I almost ALWAYS order the same thing! I love them too. But TWO was too much! I ate them anyway, and they would NOT let me pay for both as it was their mistake! They are so good to me there.
Deletewhat a delightful set of drawings! I think it's great you get to draw while you're out and can just paint them when you are home. The colours just make them pop and come alive.
ReplyDeletethanks sweet limes...glad you stopped by...
DeleteI love that you jumped in with artistic license, and created the tiny girl.
ReplyDeleteMakes me smile,,,.
All the bottles lined up in their beautiful colors,,,who could resist!
