My Week in Art at the Pure Grain Bakery, Tacos Jalisco and Starbucks
A week ago Wednesday, I walked downtown to the Pure Grain Bakery for lunch. I chose to draw these two guys eating there, as I wanted that Christmas Tree in my drawing! I felt it was timely for the season, and also a way to show the time of year in my weekly/end of the year drawing!
On Thursday I ate at my usual Tacos Jalisco and was so happy to see the Purple--Haired woman there. She had changed her hair color to bright orange! This lovely woman, I've been told, is in her 80's! I love that she is keeping herself looking so wild and exciting! The gentleman behind her didn't seem to notice! And the other fellow is squeezing the life out of his burrito. He's looking in a completely different direction! But I saw her and I had to draw her!
[She is in my book with her Purple Hair!] *speaking of which I am about to click on send and send it to the publishers tomorrow morning!!!!
On Sunday I joined my husband on a short Sunday drive to a nearby town where he likes to go to Starbucks Coffee. There was a tiny Christmas tree on a table there too. The two women are sitting behind a glass window inside the shop. We are sitting at a table on the opposite side. The guy standing I could see well, as if the window was not there, and I just could not bear to draw the black line across his face. So you get to see him as I saw him. My latte and oatmeal cookie were both good.
We had a great Chanukah last week. I wish you all who celebrate a happy holiday season this and next week! And soon a happy NEW YEAR!!!!

ReplyDeleteI just love your sketches and watercolor. Your loose style is so inspiring to me. :) My favourite is the one with the tree!
ReplyDeleteSweet to hear I inspire someone else to draw!
DeleteI made it through the bronchitis, but look what I missed. So I took a long peek at all that you have done, and it was so much fun.
ReplyDeleteThe wind has been horrible here, but no snow yet. We have had some wind damage to the back porch, but nothing that can't bee fixed in the spring. It is cloudy and cold, but warm in my home, a fire is burning in the wood burner keeping me warm.
May all of the joys of this season we share, blessing each day, Mary
I hope you don't get tired of my telling you how much I love your art, but I love it! Good luck with your book.
ReplyDeleteNo, Julie. I never ever tire of hearing it. Don't stop please. These are the words that keep me creating, believe me. It's food for my artist self/ego/creating self needs to go on and create more!
DeleteI do love your sketches, you make something that is ordinary sound really interesting. What do you carry to do this sketches, you must have a big bag! Seasons greetings.
ReplyDeleteI carry a back pack always. For art I only need one art journal and my pens. So it is not heavy to carry. I do the painting at home later. thanks for asking and visiting.

ReplyDeleteHey, first of all Congratulations on finishing your book and submitting it for publication. Huge accomplishment there.
ReplyDeleteSecondly, I love (and admire) that you are doing these drawings on site and of people in public places. You are really transferring the energy of life into the work. I also like the details and the narrative effect you accomplish with various people in the pictures--their relationship to one another (and their food and environment). Awesome! (Came to your blog by way of Sunday Sketchers).
You are such a fabulous artist..beautiful work! I always feel " so in the moment" with your pieces..they are powerful and fantastic! Congrats!! Wonderful news!
ReplyDeleteAll the best in 2013!
