Drawings From Photos and Drawing From Life

This is my son and extra special daughter in law, who I now just refer to as my daughter, on their wedding day. Taken from a photo from that wonderful day. I maybe captured a tiny smidgen of their personalities. Maybe...

... and this is another attempt at drawing from a photo ...  and I'm hard pressed to say its a painting of my grand daughter because I don't think she has green eyes, but that's what this baby has. You can see her little hearing aide behind her ear there on the right.

And then I got back to LIFE at Taco's Jaliscos drawing from LIFE. I have to tell you I am eating something totally different there now since I shifted up my diet to a very grainy/veggie/fruity/non-dairy/non-meat way of eating. (See previous blog post about new eating regime) Carlos is grilling me red, yellow and green bell peppers and onions, adding them to a medley of rice and beans, lettuce, tomato topped with slices of avocado that is simply to die for! It's called a
burrito bowl.
(burrito without the tortilla)

So while I was there two days in a row this week I ate and drew these people also enjoying the wonderful Mexican fare.

I drew this one (above) in the light of day, but came home and painted it in the almost dark! LOL I bet you can't tell.

I like seeing our people in the service fields enjoying lunch here too. I wonder if he was thinking about where he might like to travel to in Mexico. I know when I drew the map this week I was remembering places I visited there 53 years ago! Holy Cow, was it really THAT LONG AGO?

I hope your week was as nutritiously tasteful and artfully creative as mine has been!

Please visit other creative artists on Paint Party Friday and

Someone bought a copy of my book
One Fish Taco and Half an Order of Guacamole A Year of Drawing Over Lunch at Tacos Jalisco
yesterday!
If it was YOU please tell me
so I can
THANK YOU
!
Thanks for all your comments, they make my week so very very special!

  1. Sketching and painting live models is much different than using a photo. And drawing family is so much harder than art with strangers or acquaintances. Love all your work - and I love your comments about your daughter-in-law. I had a friend who called her 2 daughters-in-law her daughters-in-love!

  3. All fun works of Art. Love the baby. also love the last one. There is something compelling about it. Makes me want to know what he is thinking staring at that map. I think it is harder to do family then strangers for some reason. Maybe because were to critical of ourselves with knowing them. I am sure your family will love the drawings.

  4. Lovely drawings, you really do jump in and go for it Lynn :) Hope your new menu is as tasty as it sounds. Do I hear the next book being called 'One Burrito Bowl and a Rainbow of Peppers'?! perhaps? :)

  5. Drawing real life is more difficult for me because I don't have the experience. Drawing from a photograph, plus knowing the people, is so much easier. I know, I need more practice where I am weakest. You are excellent at both. Blessings, Janet PPF

  8. it is different working from photos and from life... I tend to have both on my desk when it is possible.... the actual object and then a photo of it... a bit hard with your subject matter though... love that you are continuing to push yourself and do new things...xx

  15. I don't know if you captured your son and daughter's personalities, because I have not met them. However, you certainly captured the love and excitement of the special occasion in their facial expressions. I also like your granddaughter's portrait, because that i a difficult pose you chose to illustrate. Tacos Jalisco looks as delightful as ever. Blessings, my friend!

  21. More wonderful sketches from life! I do have to get that book so I can get some good recipe ideas. I eat almost that way now. I just have to get chicken out of my diet. I don't think I could give up fish though. Bread is no issue for me.

    Great stuff Lynn!!

  22. I simply love grilled peppers, so so yummy! That good food certainly doesn't hinder your wonderful work! I'm not sure I could cut out dairy - I love milk, cheese (not to mention chocolate) way too much. Just for tonight when we're going over to friends I've made a wonderful raspberry mascarpone - yummy!
Good luck with your new diet, and keep those drawings and paintings going!
