Paint is so forgiving ... I was drawing this drawing of "the couple" last Thursday (April 25th) and I was eating one of my new favorite dishes, The Burrito Bowl with grilled veggies, and I had the food bowl on the table above my art journal. So every time I took a minute to take a bite of food, I took a chance of some of the food falling from my fork and falling on the page. And since the drawing was more important to me than the eating there were a bunch of food smudges on this paper! But interestingly enough, after I painted it the smudges blended right into the paint and you will not be able to tell where they are. You had to be there!
And look at this, here is "the couple" AGAIN!!!!! On May 1st I had just sat down when Carlos came running over to my table to give me his always ready hello hug, and told me that when he asked the 'She' of the couple what she wanted to order today she said:
"I want the 'Lynn'!" Carlos knew exactly what she meant and went and placed her order for the veggie burrito bowl with grilled veggies!
We talked later and it was suggested (by Carlos) that they should put it on the menu that way! After lunch, as the couple was walking out, He stopped by my table and said, "You know, it's called Tacos Jalisco NOW, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if the sign eventually read Tacos Jalisco and Lynn Cohen!"
Needless to say, we all had a huge laugh about that!
Can you see Carlos' mom, Cecelia, at the counter, and his dad, Carlos Sr. behind the couple in the kitchen? They are so busy. If you want to see more of this cast of characters they are featured in my book: "One Fish Taco and Half an Order of Guacamole A Year of Drawing Over Lunch at Tacos Jalisco". You can preview it at Blurb Books and if you like what you see you might want to buy a copy. You can get there via the icon on my side bar.
And if you are wondering why there are ONLY 2 drawings this week and last, check out what I have been busy creating on the post just previous to this one. In case you didn't know I also create
art quilts! And the one there is for my grand daughter, Allie Bel! The whole story is on that and my other blog Art Quilts By Lynn ... another link will take you there to see how I made it.
Happy Paint Party Friday and Sunday Sketching!

ReplyDeleteLovely paintings, you are a real regular at Taco Jaliscos!
ReplyDeleteDoes Taco Jaliscos realise that you have made them famous all over the art-blogging community(and beyond)? I think it is fabulous that they are considering a menu item in your honor. Not many people can brag that a dish has been named after them:-)
ReplyDeleteI see that you gain the more you draw security. Saludos
ReplyDeleteI hope I get to Taco Jaliscos one day for a "Lynne." Your drawings are perfect and I'm glad they get to share your lunch with you. Thanks for the link to your quilt site. It's so inspiring to see your work.

ReplyDeleteThis post brought a smile to my face.. and now I want a burrito too! Happy PPF
ReplyDeleteHa ha I love it 'One Lynn please!'. Hope the couple always come in every day. they are now part of you. And of course I just adore the Allie Bel quilt. Happy PPF and have a great weekend.
ReplyDeletePainting food with food. Sounds right to me! I think you have become the "famous local artist." They will be putting Taco Jalisco on the tour pamphlet as the place to go to see the artist at work!
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to mention that I love seeing your quilts in the sidebar when I visit. They are so wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI love how your lunch became part of the painting! Wonderful sketches - and that veggie bowl sounds wonderful - I love grilled veggies. HPPF
ReplyDeleteI love it! Now that's what a call a specialty in the menu. Blessings!
ReplyDeletewow what a wonderful feeling to have your name included for taco jaliscos. Such fun! Enjoyed reading your story and seeing your cool drawings. Makes me crave burritos!
ReplyDeleteI always leave your blog craving burritos or tacos or...
ReplyDeleteYour paintings are amazing as always. So I guess the addition of food to your palette means your art is mixed media now!
What sweet pieces! I love that your smudges were able to be incorporated into your piece instead of ruining it... How neat would that be for them to name that dish after you!
ReplyDeleteLove this story ! How fun to have a lunch named after you ! ;-)
ReplyDeleteHappy Creating, Amazing One !
I really thought I commented on this one, but I dont see it. Hurrah for the Lynn. and that's cool about the food drops. well actually you can use some foods as dye, such as blueberries. accidentally on purpose.
