Five Days of Drawings Lynn Cohen

I think I have told you that I have started and participate in a new blog called
Paper, Paint, Pencils & Pens A community of artists drawing together.
Anyone who wishes may join, just leave me your email address here or there and I will send you an invite, which then allows you to upload drawings to a theme with us there.
Here are the drawings I did to our current theme "Close to Home" this week.

The view out my window over my computer of my cat, Henry V eating grasses in our back yard, my Camilla bush in full bloom, and the next door neighbor's house now fully in view after we had to cut down the tree that obscured it before.

Last weekend my husband and I took a trip an hour and a half away from home to Auburn, CA to hear live music. These were the people sitting in front of me.

And these are the musicians, Dick Holdstock and Allan MacLeod, who sing Irish and English folk music. Check them out on UTube. We've been following them since we met in the late 1970's. Of interest too is this 1800's crazy quilt hanging framed on the wall behind them. It was more black than I painted it here, and was done by the hostess of the music party's great grandmother. Apparently this was a classic pattern of the day (lots of black fabric and white stitching, as one very like it hangs in my first husband and his wife's home).

Sometimes I just draw what's on my desk, this being my Winsor & Newton Watercolor paint set.

And this another desk shot of my Cap Tel caption phone for the deaf and hard of hearing. I'm the latter, a speaker, a router, and my computer screen.

It certainly comes more to life with a bit of color don't you think?

One more quickly done today in my family room...

One more... I had lunch at Tacos Jalisco today, first time in a while. The couple sat right in front of me so they could not escape my pen. The guy at the counter reading a newspaper, which I neglected to draw into the picture I have drawn before more than a year ago. I didn't have an art journal with me so I used some yellow legal pad paper from my office. My apologies to the couple, this so doesn't look like them. A caricature perhaps. But then most of my people drawings are caricatures aren't they?

Come check out the other artists at Paper, Paint, Pencils & Pens. There are 18 artists who have already posted art there, and a few more signed up to do so. You are very welcome to join us. We are from all over the world, and very inspiring and encouraging to one another. One can post as frequently as they want.

I'll share this with Paint Party Friday, another awesome group of artists and they can be reached via the icon on my sidebar here.

Have a wonderfully creative week. Thanks for coming by to see my art and for your comments which I greatly appreciate.

    1. Linda, please know that three years ago I did not know I could draw. But drawing often, often every day at least one small sketch, is practice and practice makes an artist evolve from where one didn't know one existed! Do it!

  10. Oh you are just so good at what you do Lynn. I always love your work. Do you regret cutting down the tree? tee hee. I just d/l Paper 53 on my Ipad and am learning how to use it for sketching. It's very interesting and quite fun and FREE from ITunes. I think you'd like it for your outings. It has all you need on it for sketching. There are other brushes, etc. than you can download from ITunes but they may cost 1.99 or so. Have a wonderful day.

    1. Gloria, I have Paper 53 on my iPad. I tried it today. Great fun. It will take some practice to get used to it. Then perhaps it will go to TJs with me. ;-) Love that you LOVE my work! ;-)

    2. Hi Lynn. I came back to tell you that I tried it and love it. I couldn't copy and paste the drawing I did, so I took a picture of it to post on my 29Faces. It's fun and I'm glad you have one. Eat a taco for me, tee hee. I'm making tostadas today. Take care.

  11. Lynn, another feast of your fantastic drawings! I love the way you have Henry eating grass. You could have left him out but that wouldn't have been nearly as interesting as the way you did it.

    1. Faye, this drawing started with Henry. He is always the STAR and is never to be left out. His feelings would be terribly hurt if I did that!

    1. Thanks, Alicia, yes, "D." of the Couple now knows when I am drawing them! About the musicians, my husband said I didn't make them look old enough. LOL Well, we are all a lot older, and no one really wants to LOOK old! ;-)
