Last Day of Vacation: Mendocino

If you click on the collage, and when it opens click again it should make it large enough to see each photo as you scroll across and down using your scroll bars. Enjoy! The 3rd photo top row from the left is the City Hall where we were married. We drove from Sam's in Roseburg, Oregon to Becky's in Eureka, CA and then drove several more hours to Mendocino arriving around dinner time. We went looking for a B & B. Our favorite one, Mc Elroy's had no vacancy so we settled for the Headland's Inn. It's very very nice, and we'd just stayed there in December. I had to haggle for a lower rate, as our 'old room' was not available. So I took a larger room with fireplace and ocean view and paid more for a place to lay our heads than I cared to even with the discount. Have I shared before that I watch my pennies? LOL The bed was huge and apparently I got the 'good side'. DH said he nearly rolled off his side and had to hold on tight all night long. We dined around the corner at Frankie's, a combo pizza/ice cream parlor. I had their wonderful falafel that is a huge Israeli salad (chopped cucumber and tomato in a sour cream dressing) on top of baked chickpeas poured into two pita bread envelopes. Very filling. DH had a tamale. Back at the B & B we built a fire in the fireplace and put our feet up to rest and read what was left of the evening away. In the morning we went into Fort Bragg where I found the most delightful Art Supply store (Fabric Indulgence & Art Supply http://www.fabricandart.com/) and got some Lutradur and some Organza papers for art projects. I could have spent much longer and more $$ there, but we needed to get on our way. We stopped in one art gallery and saw a wonderful display of masks and other paintings etc. The ride toward home included a stop in Gualala for lunch where we sat under hanging art quilts if you can believe that! And then again in Bodega Bay where we stopped at the Tides Inn to pick up some Sour Dough bread DH loves. And onward home to pick up Henry at Pampered Pets. He said he had a good time, his cage came with a window seat! He liked that. And Kathy said she let him out each day to wander the rooms there. It was good to be home after such an enjoyable five days away. And now we turn our attentions back to packing up the house getting ready for renovations!!!

  2. Sounds like a lovely Inn, even though it was more $$$'s than you wanted to spend. Good for you for haggling. I would never have thought of that. And to visit the place where you were married must have been fun, too.

Glad you had a good trip and are safe at home.

  3. I can't believe I never got up to mendocino when I lived back there!

Bodega Bay is one of my absolute favorite areas. I just love Sonoma County.

I'm glad you had 5 wonderful days Lynn! I'm sorry I got so behind and couldn't visit every posting.

Roll your sleeves up now and go finish that wonderful house renovation!

  4. What great photos. What a cool place to stay in winter and in summer. I went thru there once..many moons ago. Only we were camping along the way. so instead of looking for B&B's we were looking for camp grounds. ;)

  5. Your vacation posts remind me of many happy moments. My husband grew up in Portland, OR and we lived for ten years in Los Gatos, CA - so we made the trek several times. We used to stay at Sea Ranch a lot, loved it. Always a day trip to Mendocino. As for Crater Lake - have you ever seen such a gorgeous shade of blue? nd so on. Thanks for the memories!

  7. You look like a real princess in that bed...although it sounds like your husband felt the pea. lol.
Isn't it amazing to light a fire in July? I mean isn't it amazing to even be talking about it while other are burning up. It sounds funny...but on the coast it is pretty cool at night and a fire is very enjoyable.
