A pouring buckets rainy day brought fewer customers into J's on Tuesday
I really felt like this was my best attempt at capturing their personalities to date. Especially his head, with high forehead behind hers. She is not blond, nor was her shirt green, but I needed contrast. So artists license taken here big time.
This younger couple sat right in front of me! She had on a very stylish black jacket with puffed shoulder sleeves and belted back. First in black ink...
and then painted
These fellows were there the week before. I forgot to take the picture from my art journal. And here and in the one above and below I am playing with the latest edition of Picasa's options for editing.
So this is not paint, its editing my black ink on white paper endeavors. (Sepia)
these guys all work for the same company and wear company shirts
with names stitched on the fronts
Here too!
(I forget what highlights I used here)
I made Mama (top left) several years younger I think than her real age; Papa on the left doesn't yet capture his true essence; the woman staffer on the bottom is closest to her looks, but I need a lot more practice before I will share my drawing attempts with them.
Happy Paint Party Friday!

and here is my contribution to this weeks challenge there. We were to do a DOODLE with our initials, but you know me, my brain heard numbers so these are special numbers to me. (My first address and where I lived the first 18 years of my life before setting out on all my big life adventures!)
My "LynTangle"!
Wishing everyone a fun filled weekend!
Your enthusiasm for drawing is wonderful. I am happy to read about the way you translated the painting prompt. In my little poetry workshop I take there is a "teacher" who issues forth quite detailed prompts sometimes which I tend to change to suit myself. LOL
ReplyDeleteYour work just keeps getting better. I too love your enthusiasm for drawing. I love seeing how your talent just keeps growing. Very inspiring to us all.I love it that you march to your own drummer and do things your way. Its better then being copy cats.. we need new insipring things.
ReplyDeleteExcellent sketches and lovely creations ~ love the color and your artstyle ~thanks, namaste, ^_^
ReplyDeletelove the sketches! That's one thing I could really stand to practice :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful! I've never sat and sketched out in public but you are inspiring me to do so! Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteI love all the color! That's something I've got to try, using my new gel pens to zentangle! thanks so much for participating, the numbers are perfect, the challenge is just a jumping off point, lol. What you do with it is always welcome.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog and commenting, it was so nice to see you.
Best,
Jenn of www.JustAddWaterSilly.com
PS. I added your link to the linky so people can see it!
As always, I am amazed at your ability to capture people - rather quickly - and then add the most vibrant colors! Love it. But I have to say the vehicle that is on your blog banner right now is my all time FAVORITE! It is excellent!
ReplyDeleteThanks MX...glad you like that old klunker!
DeleteAgain, love your personal drawing style. It's nice to see them as drawings and as paintings. Wonderful.
ReplyDeleteLove seeing the progress of your work...your portraits definitely capture your models' personalities. :) Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI am your newest blog follower, too! :)

DeleteLoving your observation drawings. Happy PPF and enjoy the weekend, Annette x
ReplyDeleteThere is such life and personality to these. I'd love to start doing more stuff like this myself but I'm always afraid people will catch me and ask what I'm doing... which is none of their business. Anyway great capture on all of them.
ReplyDeleteI must be a good hider, or I am so deep in "the zone" that I don't notice if anyone is noticing me drawing. I really don't think most people do. It's been on the rare occasion someone has said something... but it's been rare! More when I sat outside in a chair on a side walk in front of a house drawing it and people walked by. Then I got some nice comments! and that was fun.
DeleteI am totally convinced that you are a people person :)
ReplyDeletelovely work
I dare say there's some truth in that Kimmie! ;-))
DeleteLynn, I really admire your ability to capture likenesses in settings like this. Beautiful work.
ReplyDeleteThis is odd.. I commented here this morning and its gone. Said something like your work just keeps getting better and that its good that you march to your own drummer as we need new inspiring Art. I wonder where it went.
ReplyDeleteyou crack me up, lynn. i think it's adorable how you secretly/not so secretly sketch these folks and give them life. better and better and better.
ReplyDeletei wonder when i will finally pick up my micron and begin....

Your people in the cafe are amazing, wish I could do that. Do you sneak around and draw them or do some of them know what you are doing?
