Wonderful Family Time

On Sunday I visited my Aunt Mimi and Uncle Harry.
My uncle had told me to bring my pen and drawing pad with me, as he said there were lots of people to draw there at lunch. (Clever man). I was a little intimidated in the dining room to draw, but did one quick sketch you can see at the bottom of this post. Being a newcomer there everyone was watching me making drawing a tad daunting. So I stopped.

But when we got back to their home I drew this of my dear sweet aunt.
I still am not great at capturing what a person actually looks like; they are more caricatures of them.
So I showed this to my aunt when I got done.
She said: " A nice little lady."
And that she is!
I think I captured her essence in the body pose, and her hands.

My dear sweet uncle still very sharp of mind is a great conversationalist and had lots to talk about.
I so enjoy being with him and hearing his stories; and sharing his love of family. Thank you both for having me and for such an enjoyable visit!

And this is one gentleman eating alone in the dining room. He was having dessert when I quickly put him and it on paper.
It was a lovely Sunday visit with two very wonderful people.
Till next time I send my love!

  2. Does your Uncle read your blog? How wonderful for him if he does. It keeps him up on what all you are doing. Your drawings are very nice. I even can recognize your Uncle. As your Aunt says she looks like a sweet little lady.

    1. Yes, Lisa. I send my uncle my blog via email so he sees it automatically that way. He likes it. It's been a wonderful connection for us as he responds to the e mail each time he gets a new post.
Sweet that you say you recognized my uncle.

  4. What a nice outing.. Nice they take an interest in your work inviting you to come and draw. I guess you would be someone of interest there as a visitor.. and make it hard to be incognito drawing.. :)) but these are great drawings of your time there. I do recognize your Aunt and Uncle from these drawings. You did get their character down. You Aunt is right.. She is a nice Lady. :))

  5. What a lovely reunion, and nicely recorded. You can't beat family... it's what it's all about. My little lot are a cosmopolitan bunch. I'm Welsh and Pat is English. My grandmothers were Irish and Italian. I have a Japanese daughter-in-law and a North African son-in-law. My best friend granddaughter has an Australian boyfriend, and my daughter an American 'boyfriend' from Denver ... when we are altogether its total madness!

    1. John thanks. I loved learning about your rainbow family! Wonderful diversity!
I had a Welsh pen pal when I was a teenager. A young man named Gary I believe if my memory serves me. I loved writing back and forth with him at that time in my life. I often wonder what became of him. But unfortunately I don't recall his last name. He was from Cardiff.

    2. Ah! My son is working in Cardiff for the BBC (British Broadcasting Service).
I don't really know Wales - I left there when I was 3,and grew up in Kent (the Garden-of-England).
