Last Weeks Art Journal Drawings/Paintings

Catching people unawares is fun...the two women were chatting over their lunches in front of the unused tile framed fire place several tables away from me. I liked that one woman's curly hair.

The gentleman in the air force uniform was with a group of eight people. I liked how he was sort of slouched down in his chair.  He was sitting right across from me. Can you tell he is of Asian desent?

My favorite "Couple" were at Taco Jalisco's. I liked how she had her arm around his back. Last time I drew him with his arm around her shoulders.

This is my second drawing of the man reading the SF Chronicle. And the second of the other man as well. Getting to know my peeps!

These ladies on the left were deep in conversation over her laptop. Not sure who was trying to sell what to whom.

And the mom with her young daughter had really big round eyes. But I caught her first when she was looking at her sandwich.  Lots of flip-flop wearers!

Happy Paint Party Friday!

  4. Where have I been...just day to day stuff. I am a real Goober, I have miss so many of your posts, so I went back to catch up. All your drawings are so much fun to look at. I just love taking it all in. And your vacation pictures are beautiful. Our favorite lake is Lake Tahoe in California...we have a lot of history there. You both are just to cute together, thinking of you with a big smile, Mary

    1. Rarely. Once or twice at Taco Jalisco's this has happened. And a few times at the Bakery. But not often thank heavens. I'd never get anything done. LOL

    1. Marianne, I do these on my lunch break and yes, I go there to eat; but I will be perfectly honest with you I am really there to draw; the food is just something to hide behind and I need sustance to go back to work and make it through my afternoon clients. ;-)

  12. I love that you have repeat sketches, and that you tell a story in your drawings. I am always too scared to sketch in public in case someone comes to ask me what I am doing, though that is also the only way to get better as well! And yes, I could tell the soldier was of Asian descent. :)

    1. Mostly people ignore me or are oblivous as to what I am doing. A few times people have come up to me to ask about what I am doing. So far it has been with positive intention and feelings. Whew!

  15. Your drawings always make me want to go to a popular lunch spot and draw the crowd, there is a great one in my neighborhood, filled with lots of colorful folks. But I'd be getting the stink eye for taking up a table while I sat drawing instead of eating.

    1. Taco Jalisco's is a special place for drawing. Although I must make clear that I do go there for lunch and I do eat while drawing. The son of the owner is an artist, an animator and an actor! He actually encourages me to draw there, as do his parents the owners. I am the second person to draw on a regular basis in this particular restaurant besides the son, Carlos. The first published a little book of his drawings (they weren't like mine of the people there, however). This is not the case at the other places I draw, but no one seems to mind.

  31. All the paintings have this "moment frozen in time" quality. You capture the mood in an instant. It´s the flow of your lines that gives them the implied live movement.
