Painted Drawings Two Different Pens

I often draw with a favorite XS (extra fine) pen, but on this first drawing I had a .05 pen that was much thicker in comparison. I liked it. In the past this much ink was intimidating to me. So I was pleased to discover that it no longer scared me to see such a bold line immediately.
I liked how it flowed and how that felt!

I of course painted it after I got home in the evening. The weather has been so nice that I enjoy sitting out on the patio before or after dinner to do the painting. This was drawn at Taco Jalisco's of course.

The second one was drawn at the Pure Grain Bakery. The people who look like couples were NOT sitting together. I just drew people from different areas and put them together.

The person on the far right was sitting outside my window. I studied him/her closely but sorry, I could not decide if it was a man or a woman. He/she was very androgynous looking.

Painting did not make a difference. In the end, I am betting it's just a guy with long hair reading a yellow book. I liked the guy in blue's sunglasses worn backwards under his cap in back. I also enjoyed drawing the heavy set woman in purple. And the red haired guys' curly hair. It's orange of course *just like my dear uncle Harry's "orange hair" even tho they used to call him "Red"! Go figure!

I used two different pens for this drawing. A .05 for the people in front. And an XS for the people in back. I thought it would help with perspective. Did it?
Happy Sunday Sketching!

I just learned that Sunday Sketchers is cancelled for today as the person who runs it is ill. I wish her a speedy recovery.

And thanks to all of them, and you, who come here to see my art and for leaving comments,
which I greatly appreciate!

  1. Again such great drawings! And I think the 2 different pens made a difference! The foreground is more focused, which is very good! :)

  2. I like the look of this pen, it does make for very definitive lines. Have you tried just using pencil and then painting in watercolour without the pen at all ?!? lol :)

  3. I have found that the .05 is better to use on watercolor paper that is a little rough. I usually use the fine one though.

  5. I do see the different line sizes, but I am not sure I would have noticed without you letting us know. I definitely like the drawings - it is so much fun to see them, and then how they come to more life when you paint them. It's so good that you feel more confident in your drawing now, and I think you have all the right to. I like your work a lot.

  6. Yes I can see the difference in the sizes of pens used. the smaller one does put the people back further.. cooler colors does that too. Warmer colors close up make things seem closer. All sorts of tricks we can use. Wonderful drawings as usual. What was that woman in the first drawing putting her hands into?

  7. I like the comparison of the fine vs the larger pen - I think it works well. Cris's comment is good also, have to take artistic license with colors.

  8. An awesome idea Teresa...I actually did such an art quilt FOR Soulbrush with HER art a few years ago. I have gotten away from making art quilts as frequently as I was doing...but this is a supurb idea. Perhaps AFTER I do the book with my drawings!

  9. I love how you catch so much information with such few lines - do you sketch very fast? It looks like you sketch very loosely yet still gather lots of realistic details. I love your style! Isn't it funny how working with something new can change your viewpoint...I think I'm going to try something other than watercolor - oils or acrylics. I find that I'm only happy with my watercolor when I use it very dry and controlled. I don't think I'm a "go with the flow" kind of artist. I must have control!
