Grandkids Rock on Day One of Three Here!

I cannot tell you how many years I have waited to see my grandson climb our fig tree! This was the year! And he helped pick figs! He liked eating them too.

We walked to the park up the street from our house...where they drummed, played on play structures, ran around, played catch with their grandpa...and just had some good outdoor time.

Back at the house they got artsy!
They called it being at "Grandma's Craft Camp!"

My grand daughter drew with nice waxy colored pencils and my grand son sewed on my machine, as I supervised.

Isn't this a lovely design he made from fabric scraps and red thread!

We were told that they had to read 30 minutes each day. They chose to do it in the hammock on day one!

I had fun drawing them.

My grand son and I both agreed this  did not look much like him. He really didn't want to sit still long and so I got the dimensions of his face all wrong. But I think I got his Red Sox T-shirt just right!

And Henry? Well, poor Henry was simply miserable the whole time they were here. He hid in his spot in the front yard under lots of brush, only coming into the house late at night after the kids were fast asleep. And then asked to be let out again. Luckily it was warm enough to stay out all night. Because he did for three nights. The kids would be gentle with him if he'd give them half a chance.
By day three he almost did, but thought better of it. Oh well, he's back to normal now.
I'm sharing my drawings here with Sunday Sketchers. You can get there by the icon on my side bar to see what others did for today. Have a good week!

  2. that photo of the kids reading on the hammock is priceless, lynn! donate that to your local library: they will make a poster of it!!

what a treat to follow along with you. i understand every word.

are you exhausted at all, or maybe after age five it gets easier?

    1. Kj, I was tired after they left but not AS TIRED as I have been in past years. It does get easier. 1) they are self sufficient. GD can even go into the garage looking for fabric to use for crafts by herself; they bathe themselves now; they don't whine or cry much anymore at all; they eat well; I was there to help with art projects it seemed every minute, but I love doing that...we took them places and they are really well behaved, just fun to be with. Talking to them and listening to them is a real treat too. They are even good at cleaning up their messes and putting things away. Yes, it does get easier! They are almost eight!

  8. Wanted to add that Snuffles behaves like this too when the grands are around, she slinks off to her bed and keeps her distance, I think they don't feel safe with little kiddie's fingers around them.

  9. These kids are growing up into mature young adults before our eyes. They have a different look about them now. Cute kids. Love the Hammock shot. Looks like you had lots of fun and the drawings are great. It is hard to get them to stay still long enough to draw them correct but its still a great drawing. Poor ole Henry. He missed out on lots of lovin' :))

  10. Looks like everyone was having a good time...they look like really sweet kids. Your drawings are so special....keeping a kids still is very hard as you well know. Just getting a picture can be donting.
The Closet is going to be fine. We will have two layers. One high and the other lower. We talked about a walk in, but we have changed our minds. We have a large Laundry room for storage downstairs. Most of our cloths are sporty, not alot of hanging. It works for us. With slanted walls a walk in was going to be really hard to make work without bumping our heads.

  12. Poor Henry. But those grandkids more than made up for any attention you might have missed from Henry. And I think he's over it by now. What fun you all had. I'm glad they got to play AND read! Not sure who had more fun, the grandkids or the two of you!

  16. Wonderful getting to know the sweet characters of your grandchildren!! Very nice illustrations! Poor Henry, glad he's recovered from the trauma of visitors!! Looks like it was a very memorable time for all!! You have a couple of budding artists in your midst. Wonderful sewing design!! Interesting to think he could one day be a famous designer, all because of this shot at sewing...Thanks for sharing this special moment!!

  18. I missed SS but I'm still zipping around and checking in :) My MIL is amazing with my kids...she is an inspiration as are you. Makes me want grand kids, but I guess I REALLY need to wait as my oldest is only 14 :) Love your sketches and blog, as always you are an inspiration.

  19. Looks like the kids had as much fun as you did! They are so lucky to have you two!

GS has a good sense of composition, and GD looks very focused on her sketching--it seems like they were just little tiny--
