Pink Haired Girl, Grand Kids Visit and Tuesday at TJs

When I walked into Taco Jalisco's last week I immediately saw and knew I would draw this pink haired young woman. She was sitting at a table alone with a large art pad and she was doing a zen tangle with black Sharpie marker pen! She saw me take out my art journal and we shared a knowing smile.

I don't know that she knew I was drawing HER, as she didn't pay me much attention after that first nod. But draw her I did and the other women and girl surrounding her. I couldn't wait to get home to paint that bright pink/purple hair!

We picked up my two eight year old grand children on Saturday morning and brought them home for a sleepover and first night of Chanukah. I gave them one gift early so they could use them all day if they wanted to: They each got an art journal like the ones grandma uses and a good drawing pen to go with it
and they both sat down to draw immediately. I of course sat to draw them.

We have to call these "age progressive" drawings as they look quite a bit older than their eight years.
It's okay, they will grow into these drawings over time. ;-)

It was a wonderful Chanukah celebration and just special fun loving time having them at our house to ourselves!

On Sunday night their parents came to pick them up and I took them all out to dinner at Tacos Jalisco. They got to meet Carlos who was working that night. And he got to meet my family. That was sweet.

On Tuesday I was back at my usual spot drawing the patrons eating their lunches as I ate my "One fish Taco and Half an Order of Guacamole"! Hummmm, sounds like a good title for a book don't you think?

  1. Very funny that you said your grandkids will "grow into" the drawings you did of them. I did notice they looked rather mature for 8 years old, but then kids these days generally are old for their years in a lot of ways.
    Let the light shine in!

  13. I wonder if the pink haired woman would have tidied her clothes if she knew she was going to be on a national blog, hehe. When I wrote short stories, sometimes i found that I grew into the story. I never knew this until the future of course. but i had sort of presaged a future event in the story but not on purpose.

    1. Suki, I do believe what looks like clothing disarray to us is style to her! ;-0 at least I see a lot of "off the shoulder-bra or camasole strap showing" in others.

    1. Sigga, I thought we were bigger than we are. In 2011 our population was 93,000. We definitely have a small town feel and look, especially in our old downtown area where I work and draw!

  29. I've seen the pink hair quite a bit lately, but not on one so much older. Great job with the gals. I could feel the ambiance of it all. Alright, introducing and getting the grands involved. I did that too and it pretty much stuck for awhile. Blessings, Janet PPF

  32. How fun to sit and draw with the grandkids! I'll bet they love coming to visit you!

Katie and the rest of her basketball team just put colored streaks in a section of hair at the nape of the neck--kinda a team solidarity thing, I guess. My knee-jerk reaction would have been to say no, but then I thought, why say no? So she has a turquoise streak that doesn't show when her hair is down, but definitely shows when her hair is in a ponytail or a bun...

    1. Karen, thanks for the visit and comment.

I really think Katie's color choice is cool, and may this be her worst acting out in her teen years! Not to worry!
