Last Thursday I went into Tacos Jalisco for my usual drawing and lunch session, "One fish taco and half an order of guacamole, por favor!"
'The couple' came in a while after I got there and sat next to me, but I was already busy
drawing these folks across the room... so I didn't draw them.
Not sure what all these signs are about, some in the windows and then more I drew myself to fill in white space on the page ... just felt like writing I guess!
The Mrs from 'the couple' told me she'd finished three of the Jody Picolt books I'd given her.
I have a whole shelf more she can have when she's done with those.
That is what I used to read there before I started drawing!
Friday, once again I had to take my car to the mechanics, and as it's half way to the town with the water we went to Bab's diner for breakfast again ... and this time I took my little three legged chair and sat and drew these boats. I hadn't been able to sleep the night before, I think it shows. ;-)
I bought some new colored pencils today, water soluble ones by Koh-I-Noor called Mondeluz 12.
They have a nice soft feel to the lead. I colored both these drawings with them and then added water with a paint brush to "paint the color". On the upper most drawing I left some of the pencil dry. I think you can see the difference. It was fun to play with a new medium.
I'll link this to Sunday Sketchers and you can hop over there to see more art via the icon on my sidebar.
Enjoy life!
You capture people's essence so well ~ love your new colored pencils ~ ^_^
ReplyDeleteI love the energy in your work...the shadows on the water intrigue me...

Good job with those boats, you are fearless! ;)
ReplyDeleteAlways good to sketch outdoors. You have inspired me to get outside with my pencils.
ReplyDeleteJames
lovely sketches today Lynn, I like how you captured the reflections in your outdoor piece.
ReplyDeleteLove your boat work, there is almost an abstract quality to it.
ReplyDeleteLove having a glimpse into your world.. :)
ReplyDeletealways wonderful to see your sketches!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy so much reading these posts and I remember so well the anticipation of the book and now it sits on my coffee table, for all to see, beautiful work today and I agree, new medium is so much fun, we are like children again,
ReplyDeleteI just love your sketches!!! I always have wanted to do a sketchbook and you inspire me!!!
ReplyDeletethanks!
Yes, precious drawings especially the first.
ReplyDeleteLove the drawing from the diner! And the different personalities you can feel from the people!
ReplyDeleteI can imagine you sitting there sketchbook in hand capturing all these moments. Great stuff :)
ReplyDeleteI feel like I just spent some time with you, how pleasant! And how fun to buy some new "toys" or "tools", or both. Nice drawings! Rita
ReplyDeleteI cant believe it but the people in the first drawing are actually having a face to face conversation. My faith in humans has been restored. LOL I've never heard of those water soluble pencils.. Will have to check them out. More great sketches!
ReplyDeleteLovely sketches, Lynn!
ReplyDeleteAnother fun lunch picture! I am a big Jodi Picoult fan too. Her characters live with you long after you've finished the books. My cousin is a librarian and describes her writing as "domestic drama".
ReplyDeleteHa ha I love Cris's comment. More fun and love the colours. Not sure about those pencils yet. Do you know the 'couple' real name btw?
ReplyDeleteI have wanted to leave a message here for ages, and finally figured out how by going through my translator. Other than that, I can't leave messages on ANY blog with embedded comments. I love your art and was looking at the review below. I wish I could leave more comments, but this takes forever when I try to leave one. However, since you visit me so often, I felt I had to make some sort of effort.
ReplyDeleteI can see the difference in the pencils when you add the water. I actually like both effects. And having that option seems like a good way to go, too.
Lynn,
ReplyDeletei havent heard of those pencils before but the results look lovely. I love using wc pencil. It is so exciting when you add the water and the color becomes vibrant. I had dinner at my Jaliscos today and thought of you.
