Day three on the Fish Quilt. Here is a sneak preview of all the pieces laid out on my bed on a flannel sheet. My big worry now is that all my 9 patch blocks are not all exact in size. How will this affect my sewing them all together? Will I be able to adjust so it will fit well enough? Pretty bold of me airing a work in progress. But it pleased me to see it laid out like this and I had to share it. Also debating on the inner boarder? I think I like the light turquoise best (so far) or could use the green seaweed looking stripe, OR could use the red/brown/green/turquoise reeds. Want to vote? I love the mermaids and how their gold blends with the gold spots on the outer boarder. Onward!

  1. I hate to do this to you, but I can't tell which border would look best without seeing the material placed up against the quilt where it will go if it is the border.

In general, I tend to like a calm fabric on the border. My mom calls that "a place for the eye to rest" when all the interior patterns are busy.

  2. Oops...and I forgot to say that the quilt is going to be gorgeous. I'm sure the recipient will be thrilled. And I'll bet quilters run into that problem all the time, but you can make it work once you sew it all together. Your teacher can show you how, I bet.

  3. Yeh! I'm here at last! Have been away from the computer for a few days. Thanks for your invite, I am honoured :-)

Your quilt looks great, I can't believe that you are just starting out! The colour scheme is good, well balanced, but I can't decided about the border - like Kelly it helps to see the different colours laid out. The pale blue ties in well; the green would emphasize the 'sea' quality; the other colours may add zing. Look forward to seeing what you decide on.

    Best wishes, Lizzi
