The Boy With Red Lips
His head was full of thoughts of
catching butterflies
His heart was filled with gold
I am continuing to learn to make fabric portraits. This from a photo of my grandson.
I am the first to admit that the fabric portrait does not do his photo justice. However I am very pleased with his butterfly skin, and his blue hair and red, red lips. The red was a last minute decision and I think makes the quilt complete.
I continue to use Maria Elkins directions in the book mentioned in earlier post.
Size 4" X 7"
100% cotton fabrics
one purchased fat quarter,
some thrift store finds (butterflies,
blue spirals,
& red hearts)
threads a mix of rayon and cottons
in blues, white and red.
free motion top stitching

ReplyDeleteLynn, this is wonderful! I love the composition and the message of this work. I think the thing is your grandson was inspiration, but that doesn't mean it has to look like your grandson. I think it is very successful!
ReplyDeleteSuki, thanks for your feedback.
ReplyDeleteCris, Thanks, and yes, the book is easy for me to follow.
SB, thanks to you too and he hasn't seen it. I wonder if the kids would recognize themselves or each other in them. That will be fun to find out when the time comes.
Kim, I appreciate your feedback. True words!!!
These are great. You can do so much with them! I don't sew and have never liked it or had the patience for it ... although I wish I could ... and you're inspiring me to.
ReplyDeleteHi Lynn, Sorry to be absent for so long. I've been lurking and enjoying your photo collages the last few days. Thanks for the advice you left over the weekend.

Elspeth, had I not wanted to crochet a rug that needed strips of feece sewn together I may not be here now in blogland nor be sewing anything myself. That was the reason for sewing machine #1 and now I have #2 and #3 the embellisher/felting machine! Go figure where inspiration can take you!
ReplyDeleteWow Lynn, you knocked me off my feet again with your creativity!
