Orange and Brown

I was not sure this would ever feel done. I THINK it may be now... This started out as one postcard and five ATCs. I liked them too much to give away. I decided to see what they would look like all together on an art quilt. So I played with them, and my embellishing machine/felting wool roving, and Angelina fibers, and ribbons, etc... around them. I added metal embellishments I got from Judy at Red Velvet; Still it was NOT done. I added the burlap backing. Not yet. I added the thick orange border. Almost. I sewed on the huge bone buttons I got at a quilt show last year. I top sewed the squares and lines on the brown background, Nearly there, I added orange and green threads to the orange borders. Whew, I think it's done. I almost threw it out. What do you think?

  1. I have to say it is very interesting. and DON'T throw it away. It almost has a ceremonial feeling to it. Someone with armor or fancy gear on. :) What do you call it?
I see a new header that is awesome. How did you do it?

  2. Oh Lynn. Never throw things out. Just put them at the bottom of the pile and look at them again in a few weeks. I think this is marvelous and I love the way you took the separate ATC's and the post card and combined them for a larger piece. The buttons are fabulous.

  3. Cris, perhaps you mean a coat of arms or a shield?
The header is a collage done on Picasa...you can do this too you know! Just used some last years photos from my yard.

Suki, I did exactly that. I have made and finished several other things since first starting this one. And I love the buttons too, glad I remembered them. They and the orange border framed this well I thought.

  4. I am very fond of buttons too; saw a graduated stack, made of polished marine ply, in Sydney once but bought just one, four inches across; others were big as plates.
Terrific rainbows; I get rolled eyes when I exclaim about them, or the moon.

  6. ElizT thanks for coming by, do come back. Yes, aren't buttons fun? I grew up playing with my grandmother's button box, and the love of them as stuck till this day.

Teri C. you make me blush. Thank you so much.

  7. Buttons are a secret passion of mine - I have gobs and gobs and them and I know that I will inherit my mom's button box with more gobs and gobs of buttons - some from my great grandma.

point it - I like it Lynn and I think you are one creative and ready-to-experiment gal.

  8. Love this post and of course your art...Wow it speaks to me. I am a button girl also, I played with my Grandmother's buttons and I remember when the song Button's and Bow's was on the radio when I was a kid....thanks for reminding me of a past memory.
