Deterioration Reveal

Remember Seth Apter's Deterioration Challenge? This was my wrapped pieces that hung out doors for months to see what would become of them. And now we are revealing what we did with the packet of (in my case) only slightly deteriorated pieces from a rather mild bay area California winter; the only thing I added was the background brown paper bag from the grocery store that had words on it:
I sewed all the pieces down and then cut that piece into smaller pieces, and then cut some more
and sewed them down and again and again a few more times to get this arrangement you see here.
I added just a little top sewing stitches besides the sewing down stitches to add a bit of interest,
hopefully. LOL I wouldn't call this my greatest art work to date, but I did have fun joining the group, and participating in the whole process. Thanks Seth, I enjoyed the ride.
To see Seth's and others art work from their weathered pieces go here: and then to his Aug. 1st post.

  1. WOW, you put a lot of work into your piece! I like that you added some color to your original bundle. I never thought of doing that with mine.

  3. I have seen a couple of these on other blogs that I read. I think this is an unusual way to go at a project. You would never know what you might end up with. Interesting.

  4. Hi Lynn, funny cause your piece looks as if freshly put together! It IS interesting. And if you put it in another place, again, to continue it's deterioration process?:) I'd do that, just out of curiosity. Like under the under the bootscraper (this is the word I found in the dictionnary, hope it's the right one, you know for the thing you clean your boots on before going into the house:) or perhaps put it in the compost, or under your shirt for months? LOL
OK, just wanted to pop in and talk nonsense:) (I'm not in a crises, everything is wonderful, and I have finally begun to play my guitare again, have even a new one, take lessons and think of you husband who is also playing guitare:) life is great, take care, love, Andrea
