Journal Quilt challenge "Highly Prized" #1

Chris' Art Quilt Blog has started a Challenge for those of us there to make an art quilt twice a month. (Well, it's open as to how many, but that is the parameter I think I will be comfortable with) and mine are going to be 8" X 11" in size. This is my first one. The theme, which we are borrowing from the Sketch Book Challenge is "Highly Prized". So mine is a silhouette of a pregnant woman cut from a silk necktie layered over Jacquard silk paper on which I printed a prize ribbon from a show I was in last year, layered on starched white linen from the thrift store. The same necktie silk binds the outer edges of the quilt. I used gold Sulky glittery thread to top sew it all down and for the outlines and spirals that add texture to the background. "Best of Show" pun is fully intended. And if you haven't put two and two together yet, it definitely represents the high risk highly prized pregancy of my DIL and son right now, as she is newly carrying twins who we hope to see grow and thrive! Click on photo to see more detail if you wish.

"Highly Prized"

As I worked Henry slept on one of my art tables.
He wishes you all
Shabbat Shalom.
(that is what the Hebrew words on that stamp spell)
;-)
Happy Friday and Have a fun weekend.
