"She's Still My Gal"

On Saturday next we will visit my aunt and uncle. The occasion will be my uncles 92nd birthday. I've posted about them often. They are my eldest living relatives on my mother's side. Mim is my mom's youngest sister. I have told before how they met at a USO dance when my uncle was on leave from his stint in the South Pacific during WWII. They were in their early 20's. They married soon after that meeting. My dear uncle calls me from time to time. He needs to debrief from his pain of dealing with his dear beloved wife who suffers from dementia. He calls me his "doctor" on those calls. Some time ago I had left him the book "The 36 Hour Day" as it had helped me when I was caring for my mother who also had dementia. I know the angst of this job. This care giving. But he always ends each phone call with "But I love her, she's still my gal." I wanted to make him something for his birthday. Thus the small wall hanging with their photos, her when she was young, him now still looking as handsome as ever, and hearts with the words "My Gal"...some hand stitching, some vintage buttons on vintage cloth. And red sheer fabric from an old blouse that was one Mim wore not so very long ago. I wonder if either will recognize it. Happy Birthday dear uncle. I love you both from the bottom of my heart.
