I started reading this book, Room, by Emma Donoghue, on Sunday, at bedtime around 10:30 PM.
I
continued reading, and around
2 A.M. I finally told myself that as hard as it was to put this book down I had to get some sleep.
Fortunately, for me I had Monday off work...so I got up at eight and read until I finished it at 2 PM.What a read! I've put the book covers here for you to read, but I won't say anymore, other than it is the very best book I have read in a very long time. I don't remember being as gripped by a book since reading Cormac McCarthy's The Road.
I cannot recommend Room highly enough for it's exquisite writing, it's compelling story, and the connection you will make to the characters, Ma and Jack. Jack is five and he's the narrator of their story. It's emotional. And being an emotional person I cried buckets, such a purge.

Late this afternoon I drew and painted this small picture of a baby!
Nothing to do with the above mentioned book.
Hmmmm I have been needing a good read. I will try this one. I hope I can sleep at night. :)
ReplyDeleteNice painting. The little fellow has lots of expression.
Lisa, just start it when you have time to read for a long spell at once. It's not a book you want to read just a few minutes before falling to sleep at night (which is how I normally read).
DeleteGlad you like my little child drawing.
have read the book plus others of the author's. yes, i too found it gripping. sad. your baby looks like he's ready for a safari with his hat! maybe a trip into where the wild things are.
ReplyDeleteSuki, which of her other books might you recommend? I understand they aer quite different from this one.
DeleteAm sure baby is definitely with the "Wild Things!"
Glad you enjoyed your book. The little baby is adorable. Those piercing blue eyes look right at you. :)

Let me know what you thought of it Robin! It's quite the read.
DeleteHenry got your kisses and hugs, he says thanks.
Okay, sounds like a book I'll need to pick up. I love it when I find a book that won't let me go!
ReplyDeleteI've never read The Road, either, so that gives me two book recommendations! Yay!
Karen, both of these are grippers that rip you up emotionally. Be warned. Both so well written!!!
DeleteLet me know what you think.
That looks like just the sort of book I love to read ... I will look for it!
ReplyDeleteI love the painting of the baby ... what a cute face!
Kimmie, hi, and let me know how you like the book. Glad you like my baby.
DeleteThanks Marilyn, thanks for stopping by. Come often!!!
ReplyDeletelynn, you know i have a five year old in my life, so this intrigues me on that point alone. thanks for the recommendation

I've no doubt you will find this book intriguing.
ReplyDeleteThe book sounds good! I'll look for it next time I'm shopping. Thanks. That's a cute baby sketch.
ReplyDeleteThis looks fantastic Lynn! I'll put it on my looooong list :)
ReplyDeleteNice to see you sketching more people. You are BUSY!!!!
I toyed with buying that book recently but decided I didn't want to cry!! By the way, I read your comment regarding blogging at KJ's place and just wanted to mention that I think FB does play a part - if I comment there I don't often duplicate! Also you are such a prolific poster that as much as I want to, I sometimes just can't keep up!
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh, i read this book too and thought the very same thing -- i hadn't read a book so fast since "the road". i own both of these and adore each of them. my friend has it now and i want her to hurry and read it as i'm ready to read it again (she's had it about 7 months, haha).
