I asked Carlos to send me some photos of his family
so I could use them as guides in drawings for my book
that will have many of my drawings and painting done at
Tacos Jalisco's restaurant.
This is Carlos (when he was 18), with his mom and dad who own and manage Taco Jalisco's. Carlos is an artist living and studying in San Francisco, but he comes home from time to time and can be found being a server in the restaurant, as you know if you have been following my Jalisco drawings on my blog for very long.I saw Carlos at J's today (Thursday) and he told me he showed these drawings/paintings to his family and they loved them!!! He said he made copies and they will hang them in the restaurant! How cool is that! Then Carlos asked me to send HIM a photos of ME as he wanted to draw me. I guess turn about is fair play!!!
Here is Carlos with his cousin and sister who also work there. I'd like to believe that I have captured a tiny bit of their personalities in these if not exact likenesses. I always remind myself that drawings are not photos and mine are very much more caricatures than anything else to be sure. Carlos told me today that he thought I made him look like George Clooney. I was thinking Jay Leno!
I have grown very fond of this family. They all welcome me so warmly there.
Each one is very special.
Buenos Dias

ReplyDeleteThese are such fab drawings - I think they are mid way between caricature and true to life and because of that have a special feel about them. They sparkle with personality. I am not at all surprised that they wanted to put them on the wall in the restaurant. I bet you'll get loads of commissions as a result!
