How wonderful, to have them grow in your garden...(we have two very small trees, but don't think we will get fruit somehow...I'll keep you posted on that one..lol).
ReplyDeleteI have never eaten a fresh fig. It seems that everyone that has them simply swoons every time they come ripe. Happy Day.

ReplyDeleteOh I know EXACTLY how they taste. :) As we were out eating them off of our Neighbors tree last night too. She called us up to come pick and eat with her and we didn't hesitate. I usually take photos but was to busy eating...They are WONDERFUL and ripening like crazy in our hot weather. She said she is going to have to make some fig jam or Fig and Rhubarb jam as there is so many.

My figs are called Turkey figs. The tree is huge and has been cut back twice as it wants to take over the entire yard (size of a house! I kid you not)...
ReplyDeleteAnn, if you have two trees BE CAREFUL. They will grow over time and become HUGE!!! Keep cutting them back. I lost a crop last year after cutting back but they are back this year!
Cathie, I don't cook or bake anymore. I just eat them off the tree and give bags full to neighbors.
Lisa, get thee to a farmers market and buy some fresh figs! They are to die for!

ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid we had a fig tree in our front yard. My Dad would stand at the tree and eat them over and over. I was never a fig eater, the kind of sweet that they are, I don't know. But my Mama would put them into her backing and it was wonderful.

ReplyDeleteThe house in France was in Briittany which is NW France, near the town of Josselin. 6 hours from Paris. The Tuscany house was about an hour from Florence. Yes, tea would be nice. Maybe after kids are back in school. Which is after Labor Day.

I ate my first fresh fig last summer ... I was amazed at how much better it was than a fig newton (my only fig knowledge til then) ... Lucky duck you have a tree full!

ReplyDeleteKinda sad, how many folks have never eaten fresh figs. One of my fondest memories is at my grandmother's in July. I can still taste her very ripe figs. And oh, my - after she stewed them down in sugar water and spread them over our toast! To die!
