San Francisco Folk Festival on Saturday

On Saturday we rose early and headed out of town. San Francisco is about an hour from our house.
The weather has turned to cooler and San Francisco is just having a normal SF Summer of fog and mist and cool temperatures. We dressed warm.

We headed to Hyde Street Pier where the historical ships are docked and where both local and east coast musicians were there filling three stages from morning till evening with great music.

I took out my large 11" X 8.5" sketch pad to draw on.  We had met Jeremy Friedenthal (second from the left on the top drawing) the last time we were at a folk festival. This time we got to enjoy his rich voice in song.

It was fun to capture the musicians and the people like myself watching and listening. I noticed that my drawing speed often went faster when the music went fast! That was quite the challenge!

The two women in this painting are part of a group called "The Johnson Girls."  The third and forth fellows from the left in this drawing are Dick Holdstock and Allen Macleod. My husband has sung backup on a CD they produced some years ago, and they recently invited him to join them on another. This is also my second time drawing them.

I did a few others and will post them later in the week. Stay tuned!

What was also fun yesterday was that I sat across from another woman who was sketching in a tiny moleskin art book. It must have been about 2.5" X 3". It was very small. She noticed me drawing first and asked if I showed my work to others. I said I did if they asked. :-) So she took a few minutes and looked through what I'd been doing and some of my earlier works too. Later she showed me her small book. She was drawing heads of those there and I could recognize each and every one of them. She is very talented! Her name is Sarah. She asked for my blog address. I hope she comes to visit.
