Stay-Cation, Rain, Animal Weds, and Happy Holidays

Yesterday it was POURING RAIN, and we went off for a drive in the countryside on our way to Starbucks in Dixon. Same place I drew last weekend. It's a huge room with lots of people, who all came out in the intrepid weather for a warm drink and a place to gather. Young girls giggled over boys names, people chatted, some read, some went on-line. I tired to, even asked the guy in black how to access the wi-fi, but his suggestion did not help, neither did those of the lovely lady in the Norwegian sweater at her computer! Oh well. I drew and read instead! You can see how dark and damp it was out the window. The guy in yellow is there twice; once ordering and once waiting for his order.

But before we left home we saw this rainbow out our back door!

Before we came home we stopped at Wal-Mart and I got a new set of paints; my first gouache paints.
and all the grown up artists colors too! This morning I put them in this paint palette I already had and painted the drawing you see on top!
(you can see part of a Chanukah cake plate my friend Patty gave me one year. We used it for the Menorah this year and for cookies! Thank you Patty!"

On the drive back we pulled over to say hello to the three ostriches. They didn't seem to mind the rain. This baby had a lot to talk about.

DH asked me to take a photos at this house in Dixon. It is decorated so Christmas-y!

It is my holiday greeting to all of you
who are celebrating the Festive Holiday!
I didn't make or send any cards this year,
so consider this IT!

  1. Cool! I just got some gouache paints too but haven't opened mine yet - could you tell a big difference when you used them as far as the opacity goes?

    1. There is a difference if you don't add too much water!

  4. What a fun day out, blessed by a rainbow and new paints, a talking Emu and another inspiring drawing session at a coffee shop. Who needs wi-fi with all that going on?!

  8. What great photos, love that rainbow. Gouache is fabulous, silky and easy to use, and the colours just POP. Enjoy them and the rest of your festive season, rest and refuel and get ready for an arty and exciting 2013 with your new book.
