So Many Drawings: Thinking 2 or 3 Posts!

It's been a busy week for me drawing and painting ... I was absolutely thrilled to find both
"The Couple" AND "The Purple Haired Lady" at Tacos Jalisco a week ago Thursday!

The lady looked fantastic with her hair coiffed up high and colorful, with matching brightly painted purple nail polish! I adored drawing her, and painting her afterwards was absolutely delicious!

"The Couple" were curious and he asked to see what I'd done simply because he said I did it in a mere 7 minutes! Who knew I was being timed? He was impressed!

And since I was so fast with that first drawing I had time to kill so I drew this second drawing right afterwards ... getting a sense of how full and busy they were on this lunch hour!

I hadn't seen the family, the owners of Tacos Jalisco, in over a week, as they had all been down with the flu. Senor J. came out from the kitchen and gave me a kiss on the cheek! Senora J. gave me a huge hug; and Carlos Jr. greeted me warmly as well. It felt so good to be reconnected again with my family there! Carlos and I had a sweet chat about his acting classes and our art!

Gosh, I nearly forgot, that morning we'd gone to Starbucks in Dixon, where I drew these women, after we dropped DH's car off at the mechanics for some needed repairs! I just might have enough Starbucks drawings by the end of the year to do a book of just them! Again, everyone was on some techie device!!!! Perhaps this is THE BRAVE NEW WORLD Aldus Huxley was talking about. (It was he who wrote that book, right?)

On Friday I had a dental appointment in Fairfield, so before hand we stopped in at the Barnes and Nobles Starbucks. I found some people posing for me there to draw!

 books and technology

This mom was hooked up to something she was listening too. I was happy to see the kid reading an actual book! I think I may have enough pictures of people technologically hooked up for yet another book by years end!

Now, that's an idea!

As I eluded to in my post title I still have several more painted drawings done this week, but will post them on Sunday... I guess I am getting faster and find myself turning out no less than two pages a session of late. They are piling up! Come back to see more then!

Happy Paint Party Friday. Visit other artists works on their blogs via the link on my side bar. Some times you can see as many as 90 people participating. I do my best to get to them all. I apologize for when I am unable to do that, but I keep trying.

A Response to my book received today:

Gloria said: "Hi Lynn, I received the book and am very happy with it. It is awesome. Where in Vacaville is Jalisco's located, if I may ask? I glanced through it and saw your great drawings and tonight I will read. I'm looking forward to it. Thanks again and congrats on your book."

Lisa S. saw it and said: "Gorgeous!"

Jeri K. received her copy and said: "Your book is wonderful in all ways. What a joy to have it."

Karen K. said: "I bought one. Thanks for creating such a great book!"

Lisa D. said: "What a visual treat, with a bit of storytelling thrown in, bought one for a friend too.    Bravo!"

Thanks folks, this is music to my ears!!!!

  3. I too love the lady with the purple hair. I found it interesting that at Starbucks everyone is on a device but at Jalisco's they are talking to each other or at least not on a device. I love all of your new book ideas.

  4. Your work is so fascinating to me, that I would love to see you working on it. I've done a few sketches of people in public places, but I prefer working in my studio. Blessings!

  11. Oh I do love the way you draw. Like you do contour drawing really. Because of you I sit sipping whatever, and thinking, should I draw them - but as soon as they glance over I stop. However, I am now thinking of dying my hair purple, so glamorous the lady looks!

  14. Think of all the people you are connected to!! I mean, if I sketched all those people they would stay in my memory just as my friends are in my memory bank. What a rich memory you have - and colorful ones too! I really enjoy visiting your blog to see all these people :)

  40. Oh, my goodness...I love that purple lady! I want to know her! Lynn, I just love these drawings and the stories you tell about them. They are alive with energy and personality. I find them very inspiring. I think your idea about a collection of drawings of people using technology is spot on. It would make quite statement. There's something really interesting about technology being depicted in your organic, earthy style. I just love it! xo - janice

  41. You are so awesome, Lynn. I do the watercolor first and then add the lines, but I also work very fast. Seems like my art muse likes to get it done and move on to the next one. I love your style and the characters you sketch. I will have to try that. I usually work at home alone in my tiny apartment on ATC/ACEO cards, bu you have inspired me to paint more from LIFE instead of my head. You Go Girl! -
