Portraits, Daily Art Outs Fill My Week

Welcome!

The first three portraits here were all done off the Sktchy App Photos (for iPhone). I don't know these folks, but I sure enjoyed drawing them.

I am using Copic markers and they are great for blending skin tones; and fun colors for backgrounds and clothing too.

This is Meral. I don't know her personally, however, I have drawn her multiple times now. She has such an expressive face for a young woman of 20.

And this is Laura. I like that all the "models" get back to me and let me know they like how I drew them. It is very reassuring.

And then of course I continue to draw at Starbucks about five days a week.

These ladies were enjoying glasses of wine at a live music concert we went to last weekend to hear the Old West Trio.

More Starbucks Stars.

I found these stickers of conversation bits at the thrift store and am having fun adding them to my art.

This was for a klass assignment to draw folks off the TV program I was watching. Whoopi Goldberg was a guest on the Van Jones show.

And then for another artist friend's challenge I was drawing with oil crayons using crazy colors blindly chosen!

Susanne Nason is a klassmate in Sketchbook Skool. She was seeing the portraits I was drawing and asked if I would draw her (again) I do believe we have drawn each other several times in the past. Susanne spends a lot of time on a sail boat and had a sunburned nose and shoulders. My Copic markers had lots of choices for pinks to give her this look. She likes it too.

Today we were once more at Starbucks and once more I used the stickers I got at the thrift store.
I also took my Copic markers to use on these.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Actually that was a very sweet little baby. Maybe the "monster" is the phone she is on while holding him.

And this guy had a very scrawling face. I am sure he is a nice guy,
he just looks mad.

I hope you are having a good week.
If not look at lots of art
it will brighten your mood.
Wishing you a Creative Week Ahead.

  1. There has been a change in your portraits. I really like the first two. They show this change/growth in you being able to capture the essence of the person you are drawing.

  15. The portraits you are doing from the sktchy app are just blowing me away. They are so good. How long does each one take you and how large are you doing them? Bravo, Lynn!!

    1. Joan I spent 56 minutes on one tonight but it was one I made a gazillion mistakes and corrections on! It certainly did not flow as they usually do! I talk about suze and paper in next comment down.

  16. Joan thank you so much! The Portraits are done in a 8.5" x 10.5" Piccadilly art journal I got at Barnes & Noble for $7.98! 120 gsm acid free paper. Great for drawing and fine for the Copic markers too. They do bleed so I keep an extra page between it and the next page! I am not sure how long they take. I'll try keeping an eye on time on my next one. I'm definitely working slower than I do on my cafe people drawings.

    1. Thanks for both answers, Lynn. Since these are actual portraits I was just wondering how much extra time you spent on them. You are doing a great job on the skin tones and shading. They are so good. Keep up the great work!
