Portraits, Daily Art Outs Fill My Week

Welcome!

The first three portraits here were all done off the Sktchy App Photos (for iPhone). I don't know these folks, but I sure enjoyed drawing them.

I am using Copic markers and they are great for blending skin tones; and fun colors for backgrounds and clothing too.

This is Meral. I don't know her personally, however, I have drawn her multiple times now. She has such an expressive face for a young woman of 20.

And this is Laura. I like that all the "models" get back to me and let me know they like how I drew them. It is very reassuring.

And then of course I continue to draw at Starbucks about five days a week.

These ladies were enjoying glasses of wine at a live music concert we went to last weekend to hear the Old West Trio.

More Starbucks Stars.

I found these stickers of conversation bits at the thrift store and am having fun adding them to my art.

This was for a klass assignment to draw folks off the TV program I was watching. Whoopi Goldberg was a guest on the Van Jones show.

And then for another artist friend's challenge I was drawing with oil crayons using crazy colors blindly chosen!

Susanne Nason is a klassmate in Sketchbook Skool. She was seeing the portraits I was drawing and asked if I would draw her (again) I do believe we have drawn each other several times in the past. Susanne spends a lot of time on a sail boat and had a sunburned nose and shoulders. My Copic markers had lots of choices for pinks to give her this look. She likes it too.

Today we were once more at Starbucks and once more I used the stickers I got at the thrift store.
I also took my Copic markers to use on these.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Actually that was a very sweet little baby. Maybe the "monster" is the phone she is on while holding him.

And this guy had a very scrawling face. I am sure he is a nice guy,
he just looks mad.

I hope you are having a good week.
If not look at lots of art
it will brighten your mood.
Wishing you a Creative Week Ahead.

Success is Meeting A New Friend from France and Drawing A Well recieved Portrait of her.

First Francoise drew me, an as yet unknown to me artist on Sketchbook Skool. And then she asked me to draw her back.

This was my original ink drawing.

Then it was back to the usual day to day drawings at Starbucks. I love this woman's wardrobe coordination. Even her notebook matches. And her purse on the chair.

In my Klass with Veronica Lawlor we are using marks to denote size, distance, texture. I spent some enjoyable time doodling marks on this page.

And some quickies at yet another Starbucks morning out.

This guy I drew from his photo on Sktchy.

Some more assignments for klass: a building on site using thin and thick lines, straight and sensuous lines.

and for the prompt "breakfast" for "A Drawing A Day" challenge

More Starbucks Stars!

I love my coffee house peeps!

And more marks. I sure hope I get a good mark in this klass.

I hope you are having a creative week. Stay warm and safe where ever you are and draw like crazy.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving your mark (comment) as it this that keeps me drawing.

Drawing This Past Week

I'm taking a new Sketchbook Skool klass called A Drawing A Day with Veronica Lawlor. Not that I needed encouragement to draw every day; I do that anyway. But I love new klasses and this one is proving to be fun. It also coincides with a Drawing A Day with Prompts challenge. So this top drawing of my new boots in leggings for the cold in Oregon, where we went for the holidays was drawn in a motel on our way home. The prompt was "Rest".

Also for the klass, not for the prompt, was to use a thick and a thin line showing the front items on the plate stronger in the foreground and the thinner lines in the distance. I like how this worked.
The lemon on the right is the first lemon I picked off the tree I planted this past summer.

I continue to draw portraits on Sktchy (app on my iPhone). I love drawing Meral. She has a very soulful face and I have drawn her numerous times now. These two are my latest. They are also my new found love of Copic Markers. One of our Klassmates in SBS made a video at my request showing us how she used them for blending colors for skin tones. I am ecstatic to learn how to do this.

This third portrait was at the request of my youngest grand child, Allie, who paints her face herself.

This was my first use of Copic markers for a dark skinned fellow. I am so pleased with the results and so was he!

I continue to draw our instructors and facuty. Top Danny Gregory one of the two founders of SBS, and bottom, Morgan Green school Dean.

Top is Susan Colon another administrator and bottom is Veronica Lawlor.

This guy got drawn at a Starbucks and I used him for the prompt "Outfit".

Here's the same guy, for an assignment for thick and thin lines again, (before I added color to his clothing)

And several women at the coffee house on the same day.

One last quick lesson with thick and thin lines called sensuous lines that our eye follows in curves of the fallen cord.

I drew a lot more this week, but haven't posted them all. Might add some more later in a day or two or save them for next blog post.

Thanks for coming by. It's good to be home. I hope you were able to enjoy the holidays. We got to experience some intense weather unlike anything we are used to where we live: rain, sleet, hail and snow. Made for an interesting and very pretty at times ride home.

Happy New Year and wishing you a Creative week.

39 People and 1 Cat, Portraits and Places

Welcome to my Week in Pictures of People and Places full of People.

I start this week with Portraits in reverse order of when they were drawn starting with the one I felt I really messed up on tonight. I wanted to draw this gals red hair, nails and dress. And I got off to a very good start. But I need lots of practice doing shadows. Nuff said. I did like the way she sort of turned out to look like she's right out of a graphic novel cartoon like.

This was my 101st Sktchy App portrait. I really am proud of this one.
The guy really liked it too.
It's such a nice pat on the back when that happens.

And this lovely lady with blue hair was #100!
I am proud of that accomplishment!

I have drawn Meral on Sktchy numerous times. I am enraptured by her look, her eyes, her mouth, her expression. She is really fun to draw.

This guy is a kick. Loved his hat and his expression.
He was happy with my results.

My dear brother turned 80 this week. I drew him from memory and turned the drawing into a birthday card for him. We had a lovely dinner in a nice restaurant by the water. I think it made for a very happy birthday! My brother is a great guy and I am happy to have had him in my life close by all these years, and hoping for many more to come.

I liked her rosy cheeks and red hair.

And I liked drawing her mysterious look in her draped scarf that covered her face as it does here.

I made her face longer than it actually is, but I think she still approved.

And then of course we get to the people in the places I go to to draw ...

They all have their stories to tell...

This story was also drawn from memory.

I am continuing Danny Gregory's new Klass in Sketchbook Skool called How to Draw Without Talent. Drawing I believe is mostly about practice. I hope I get a lot more life in which to practice. Oh and it's not too late to sign up for this klass ($29 26 videos, SketchbookSkool.com)
These three are our cat, Henry V.

Meanwhile, back at the coffee shops ....
I tested out new Neon brush pens. (Markers)

And met up with all sorts of groups of folks at each place.

You might recognize these ...

and these ...

And these ... they are all regulars I have drawn numerous times before. Nice of them to return each week when I am there!

Which brings us to the end of the week. In between drawing I also work parts of three days a week as a counselor that gives me more time to look at people. I find myself really staring at their faces now, like never before, while listening to their stories. I am mentally drawing them in my mind. I am sure it's great practice for when I go out to do  Urban Sketching!

Wishing you a Creative Week!

Thanks again for coming by. I appreciate your visits and your comments, as they really do keep me DRAWING!
