Pinning Ella

Yesterday I spent a good part of the day making the backing pieces for my Ella wall hanging.
I used the vintage fabric that is closest to the photos here, but on the back you get to see the full range of pictures on that fabric piece (a mother and her young daughters sewing)... And intermixed it with black fabric like the border.
Then I pinned the backing, batting and top together. And added the few other pictures I had including a large 5" X 7" photo of Ella in the center.

Tonight I started stitching in the ditch and some free motion sewing as well. It is going to take some time this one. Lots of ditches to fill/quilt. There is this ongoing fear of "ruining it...knowing when to stop..." But hopefully it will all turn out well.

You can see the black border now too.

  1. Wow, This is looking good. Not as I thought it was looking. Now it has the unexpected look.. more outside the lines look you are good at. She is going to LOVE it.

  2. when somenone has done a good, perfect job , here we use an expression that goes : may your hand never aches.

the black border has added a sense of dignity to this artwork .

just, to tell you the truth dear Lynn, Ella's picture is not felt as 'welded' there... maybe because it's got no frame... or maybe because it has broken the harmony of the lines there..

sorry this crow is again cheeky...
when something is so beautiful, i feel guilty if i do not tell my true feelings...

  3. Ah shucks you guys (gals) you are too kind, really. Thanks for all the kudos. Sweet thought Human Being...in fact often after a long day of quilting my hands do indeed ache, so your saying is VERY appropriate! ;-)
Stay tuned, it's not done yet.

  4. I had to come back and read your blog again as I missed a whole section of writing by the toys. I too still feel close to my hubby after 40 and some years. Not a day goes by that I don't find something to appreaciate. And there are many somethings. Had to check over your quilt again too. It's so pretty. I love the way you name your quilts too.

  6. Don't worry about 'ruining it'! that is the beautiful thing about stitches...if you don't like them you can take them out! ;)

    GREAT WORK!
