Dolly

As part of my NYP (NY Project) I had to replicate the doll in the photo on the right. I made a muslin doll first, then dressed her in rose bud flannel and covered that with sheer fabric. Her hat is from a cotton fabric in rose buds print. I used marking pen for facial features, as it looked like that is what was used in the photo. This is an old childhood doll that was much loved. I mimicked the stitching around head and hat, and even the sewn up tears on the outfit. All the clothing were sewn on the doll by hand. I see a little rose bud on the photo on the top of the hat and know I have one here somewhere just like it. So will sew it to the top of hat when found. Not sure if I should try again for a fatter doll. What do you think? This will be sewn to the whole art quilt so can't be too big.

  1. I think the doll is the perfect size, any bigger would make it too bulky I think. How sweet to design one from the picture of a cherished toy. Your NY friend will love it, I'm sure.

  2. Since the picture of the original doll is blown up it might look a little plumper. I think your doll looks fine.

  9. I think it's a good size, too much and it would lose shape, very clever work

I just contacted a sewing group at a church and they meet monthly. Currently they are sewing a clown doll (their mentor for this project is 99 years old)!!!...that sounds fun to me, so I may go...but they only meet monthly! This clown will be a long time in the making!!! LOL! Will you show a pic of your finished quilt with dolly attached???

  12. Julie, how fun to be in a sewing group with someone 99 yrs young!
Of course you will see the whole art quilt when done with dolly attached. This one is going to take a while. It's my first ever "slow quilt". ;-)
