What is 69 supposed to feel like? Some thoughts on Aging.

More turkeys discussing their get away plans!
Yesterday I had so much energy and accomplished a great deal, including carrying very heavy things from outside into my garage. I found myself wondering how it was that I had this energy and strength to do these things. I mean I am almost seventy years old. I think I must have had a notion of what that meant years ago, thinking that it meant old, and maybe infirm. I feel neither. I am sure I have the same energy and maybe even more than I did when I was forty.
I know I am happier than I was then. Just am.
I just needed to note this here, as my blog is my life journal (and I do put them into book form now for my kids and grand kids to help them remember me when I'm gone). I guess I just want them to know that their mom and grandma was pretty darn young and spry at sixty nine and a half. I hope this lasts a good long time! I can't see why it won't. I have a whole new notion of what old is let me tell you!!!! And it's not me now! ;-)

  4. It's all about outlook, keeping fit mentally and physically as much as possible, keeping up with opportunities and getting involved. I hope I feel like you when I get there! xoxo

  5. I am glad you are feeling full of energy and fun. I do think folks nowadays have differing views on aging, as Mim indicated we exercise, dress "young" ie in jeans and slacks and sweatshirts etc which are ageless. My gram used to wear tightly permed blue hair (at times) which rather distinguished her as elderly in my young mind. And funny shoes and varicose vein stockings. You seem so active and enthusiastic in your blog which reflects your life. It is wonderful!!!! Be well, Suki

  6. No you sure dont seem it AT ALL!. Con is almost 75 and I forget that. he still digs ditches and builds things and rakes the yard. The old saying ..use it or lose it ..is very much true. But my Grandmother at 63 seemed OLD. she WAS old. Times have changed. Medicine has changed.

  8. Old or young...it's all in how you feel about it!! If you feel old, or young, you are. That's my philosophy.

  9. Lynn, my mum died aged 69 and she was a little old lady. She has been a smoker, had poor diet, never exercised and just kind of gave up when she and my dad divorced. I am so glad that 69 is not the end of the line for people, and it offers me hope that I won't give up like she did. I hope you have anothe 69 good years!

  10. Thanks for all your supportive comments here today! I agree that sixty nine or even seventy does not need to be OLD. I am living testimony to that. I do exercise.
I am busy in work/art making/life in many ways. My financial planner says I will live to 105, or maybe she just means I have to keep working so I can support myself till then! Anyway, it sounded hopeful. :-)
My mom lived to 82, grandma till 85, my aunt still alive at 92. I think there is hope that I won't be OLD OLD for a very long time.
Again, thanks for all the comments.

  12. I wonder if being an artist has anything to do with it...creating beautiful things...seeing and celebrating the beauty around you. My Dad, an artist, is 87 and he is very active, full of energy, and has a positive attitude and a great sense of humor. People have always guessed him 20 years younger than his actual age.

  14. Julie, I have no secrets. Just good fortune! My dad suffered heart disease from age 50 (first attack) and died at 72 (smoked/drank)...Mom had many major health problems. So it is NOT my genes!
I think this huge surge of energy came on post menapause! At least this is how I am equating it right now.

Bee, I hope the artistic bit fits for me. I sure do love making things/creating/art/crafts the whole gambit. I love having challenges to make something within a deadline; I like thinking up things to create one right after the other. I hope it just keeps going and going and going like the energizer bunny!!!!

I do believe having a positive attitude helps a lot and a good sense of humor. Being able to laugh at oneself is important too; do it before someone else beats you to the punch!

I have also been blessed with looking 10-20 yrs younger than I am. At 18 the lady at the department store where we went for clothes for college told mom the kids department was on the second floor. I didn't like it then. But I liked being carded at 30; and I like it now when I get asked if I qualify for the senior discount! LOL Love that one!!!! Sort of like being carded all over again isn't it!

In short, life is good. Smile, laugh, smell the roses, see the glass as half full, count your blessings and keep on truckin'....

  16. Lynn, I had no idea! You certainly don't look your age to me, but then I am not too far behind you. :) I know what you mean about not feeling old. I think that it is wonderful how we live in an age where we can still be so active in our later year. I wish nothing but more for you.

  17. I am 58 and only feel old when I look in the mirror, lol...oh, and maybe getting out of bed in the morning. But longevity is in my genes--grandparent both lived to their late 90's and my mom at 79 did a motorcycle tour in Morroco and climbed a mountain in Bhutan...they say if you have your health (oh, money probably helps some, lol)
