Time

Addendum:  Today I got the most wonderful phone call. A woman answered and told me her name.
She said she'd been a client of mine thirteen years ago when she was 16 yrs old. She said she wanted to catch me up on her life. She gotten a BA degree and was finishing up her Master's degree in Public Health counseling. She's now 29 yrs old.

She wanted to thank me she said. She told me that I was the only counselor who treated her with respect.
I thanked her and praised her successes and told her she had given me
a beautiful gift by calling me and that she had made my day!
Wow! What a gift.
;-)
 "Forty years ago."
Yesterday I was on the phone talking to a young woman going through a divorce while I was drawing this clock. As I talked to her about her anxiety, about becoming a single parent I was thrown back in time to 1972 when I was experiencing many of the same things she is experiencing now.
It was only after we hung up that I realized how meaningful drawing the clock was.
And how my own life experiences often are so helpful when talking to others about their lives.
The small plaque under the clock is a gold bar on my desk, the "brand name" perhaps?
I like that too, because even though life sometimes throws us difficult curves
we can still come out "Winners Only"!

Later I continued drawing the inside of the desk...always such a messy place full of paperwork to be sorted through, processed and cubby holes filled with things that have been there for years. Another accounting of TIME. I bought this big oak roll top desk 21 years ago when I started my private practice as a counselor. It too earmarks so much of my personal history, my career at least! Time marches on.

I used my Faber-Castell PITT artist Pen SX in a Canson Drawing book with 90 LB acid free paper.

  3. More great drawings and the stories that go with them is even better. Everything we have has meaning I think. Drawing makes us think as well as see. Good job!

  6. Great sketches! It's nice that you record you life in drawings.
I have a thought for you: today I bought a short, hooded cape of knitted lamb's wool at a store and thought of you. It has cable stitching down the front and falls just to the tops of my legs making it great for getting in and out of cars. Maybe you should try cape-making. I love this one! Feels warm as a sweater.

  11. That is a great reminder to reach out and thank people who made a difference in our lives. You're right, that was a beautiful gift to receive! I'm not surprised that you would have had a blissful effect on someone's life...:) but I'm am so happy for you that you were given the chance to hear it. And I love that you draw while you listen. I think I might have to try that sometime too...I'd be so curious as to what would come out of my hand/brain!

Hope you have a fantastic new year! And thanks for being a long-standing friend in the blog-o-sphere!
