New Modality Color Crayons!

These young ladies were in the park last Saturday where we went for a Free Lunch the local police department was offering along with face painting and finger printing children. (how sad is that idea!)
But we got a kick out of sitting in the shade eating our barbecued hot dogs and drinking cold water, while I drew the people around us. I saw on Danny Gregory's blog that he had used some crayons in his art so thought I would give it a try. I bought a big box of 64 Crayola Crayons for $3 at the grocery store! I love brand new crayons. It definitely was a blast to the past..........way far to my childhood!
And it was fun. I love the variety of colors and the way watercolor won't mix with them but paints in the grooves (the white spaces between crayon strokes). The sky is all watercolor blue paint, but same color or blended color paint was added on top of some of the crayoned parts of my drawing. Try it it's fun!

This one of a guy loitering was done in all crayon, no paint... done quickly waiting for DH to come out of the 7-11 with his newspaper and our lottery ticket. (nope, we didn't win this time either). LOL

On Saturday we went to the farmers market again and this time, as I wasn't alone I took photos and brought them home to draw and paint from them later. This woman was busy shopping for fresh veggies. It's a mix of crayon work and watercolors.

Now you can see Shelley Dally who made my Frida necklace I purchased from her this week after ogling it the Saturday before. She was all decked out in a colorful Tye-dyed dress that I was excited to draw and paint. This is all watercolor and black ink pen. She is adjusting a lock on the piece for me. She has the prettiest smile.

This is the beautiful necklace Shelley made with fused glass embellishments. The back of the bottom heart charm says: "Serenity, Courage, Wisdom"

This is my art for Paint Party Friday. Tomorrow you can follow more of the artists participating there by following the icon on my sidebar.

  2. I really love the one of Shelley - the colors are so vibrant and I like how you did the words around her body. Your sketch book would be so much fun to look through! All the rest are great too, that one just really caught my eye! I knew someone who used to melt crayons and 'paint' with the wax. It really created a very different texture and style.

  3. I am just amazed at how fast you have grown in your drawing. Its truly amazing work you do now. Love the first drawing. I get the feeling of being right there with you watching them gossip with each other. :) I too chuckled at the Phone conversation, and love the colorful outfit of Shelley. Cant forget the Gal picking out veggies to buy at the Farmers Market. All with their own stories. Happy PPF early. :))

  17. Lynn this is great!! I had to chuckle I thought the lady had her tongue sticking out, I had to look closer...ahaha need to wear my progressives on the computer!! I like how you got the cleavage in too!! You really can tell the character of the people from your amazing drawings!! Great idea about the crayola and watercolor mix. I just heard a guy on tv talking about melting old crayolas and dipping old candles to change colors in a decorating segment!... Plus I was looking at encaustic tools this week....hmmmm think I need to look into this more!! Love the tye dye dress...so fun! Great necklace too! Thanks for sharing this meaty post!!

    Happy ppf!

  23. You scored a 64-pack of Crayolas? Awesome! As is that vibrant portrait of your jewellery-making friend. And that lady choosing her veggies is so amusing, typical and unique at the same time. Lots of fun here.

  24. Good for you to draw with crayons. Unfortunately I can't stand the smell of them, they give me a headache, so I only use them very rarely.
I love the necklace you bought - and your painting of the creative woman who made it is beautiful. I love the colors!

    1. Siggadis, sometimes as I did here I draw from photos; but more often I draw from real life on the spot! I bet you can tell the difference. One is fast and one is a slower process.

Yes, I hope putting your button on the side bar brings more people to your card shop!

I look forward to these 'people' b/c it is all in how you see the world. Very interesting, joyful, exciting. Thank you. Blessings, Janet PPF
