A Slow Week, Only 15 Drawings to Share!

I'm working backwards this week for some reason. I drew this gentleman today at the coffee house near where we live. He looked so comfortable in the back of the room on the couch all by himself reading his newspaper. Have you noticed that only people of a certain age still read PAPER papers?

I loved this group, which was much larger, a couple of families or one large family with men, women and children with the first two on the left here. But they left soon after I got started drawing these two, unfortunately. I wondered where they'd come from, how long they'd been here, and what was their story?

The young woman on the right has appeared in my art journals before. She is very lovely, more so than I show here. She has very long, straight black hair that shines. I think she is Chinese.

Okay, so here I made up a love story. This woman (above) came in a while after the guy in the striped shirt in the next picture came in. He'd been sitting there a while, alone. In fact, I drew him and the people around him first before I ever noticed the young woman. But she did come in and sit across from the guy in the blue and black striped shirt. They talked a while there. Then they moved to two big leather chairs in a corner. More private and intimate setting. So I decided they were on a meet up, or he called her and she came on a date, or it's his sister, I have no idea really, but they did sit and talk for a very long time.

The other people are people standing waiting for their drink orders, people in rain coats, as it was raining outside, and a guy on his laptop with headphones. I drew them all quite quickly.

Then I drew three of the barista's behind the counter. There are huge pitchers of non dairy and soy milk hanging on a transparent partition, and bowls of coffee beans on top of the coffee makers. They were all working very busily. Like a swarm of bees! Only making drinks, not honey.

These guys were all served by baristas. Then they got busy on their devices. It's what most people do there who aren't on dates.

I drew this for two different themes this week: The first one was for "Song Lyric" for Every Day in March. My husband is a great singer of sea shanti's and other songs. This one is a sea shanti called Rolling Down to Old Maui. I have heard it so many times, him playing and singing it, I could sing along with him. But  I do not have a singing voice so you wouldn't want to hear that. He does!

I also posted it in my other blog I co-host with Ann Hyde in the UK,
Paper, Paint, Pencils & Pens. A blog open to all artists to join in and draw to a theme that changes every two weeks. This one was BIG and small. I decide his voice was BIG and his guitar smaller ... Actually, I was stretching things a bit, but no one complained.

Then, again, for Every Day in March I had to draw someone I knew. I don't know anyone I know better than I know my husband. And he was there, so I drew him. The sun was coming in a window shining and obscuring part of his face just in case you were wondering where his ear went.

Then earlier in the week, remember these drawings are all in reverse order of when I actually drew them, this threesome was enjoying drinks together at the tall table at Starbucks.

And this woman was a joy to draw. She had bright pink and purple hair, a blaring bright pink sweat shirt and a pink and purple lap top and purple tattoos! Who could ask for anything more?

This was the day I spotted another sketcher in the room. She's the gal in the blue hat on the middle right! I got so excited. I wanted to meet her. I figured we'd both draw a while and then I'd go over and introduce myself. I wanted to see what she'd drawn and show her mine!

Well, we did the first part, but then all of a sudden I looked up, and she was walking right in front of me, passed me, eyes straight ahead, not showing one iota of interest in what I was doing.
I could NOT believe my eyes.

I wanted to  reach my leg out under the  table and trip her!
Or reach across the table and grab her arm with my hand while shouting WAIT!
But no, she just kept on going and out the door!

I guess she must be a VERY SHY artist!
She had to have known I was drawing. She was sitting at a tall table facing my lower down table and she could easily see my stuff spread out all over the place.
 I sure was aware
of what she was doing on her high perch!

Oh well, sigh, disappointment!

In the meantime, I drew these three women, talking happily together, agreeing on everything! They didn't know I was drawing them. I wonder if the other sketcher drew them too?

And I drew this couple. I loved her red hair and patterned pants. Some things are fun to draw and break up the monotony of all black clothing or all blue jeans!

and these people too. The lone guy was very dapper in a smart coat and shiny nicely pressed dress pants. I wondered where he'd come from or where he was going. Everyone else is dressed very casually. Lots of hooded sweatshirts. The cuddlers at the top are two women. The one on the left was busy, and the one on the right was drinking in being close.

So, that was my week! I leave you with this fantasy fish I drew for our NEW THEME "FISH" at Paper, Paint, Pencils & Pens. You should come by and see what others are drawing there. Remember new artists are welcomed all the time. (any level of drawing is welcome) We stick to a theme for two weeks. It's fun to come up with different drawings on a theme. (click on the link to find your way there!)

Don't be intimidated by my fish, he doesn't bite!

Thanks for stopping by. If you are NEW you might want to become a FOLLOWER (see top);
If you are returning, thank you so much. Your visits and comments inspire to me draw more and more! And as you can see I have a hard time knowing when to stop!

HAVE A CREATIVE WEEK

    1. Thanks Sirkkis! Observing people is both a "people watching" habit/hobby and what I do for a living as a counselor! So I guess drawing them is just second nature to me now!

  5. Love how excited you get by the lady all in pink... I would love it too...and then the other artist...I would be way too embarrassed to show anything I create to some random artist. Not surprised she left without saying word...I'd be praying no one asked to see what I was doing...lol You have become really confident which is awesome...Love all the hubby drawings too! Great job!!

    1. You are probably right about the other artist! And I do have both very confident days and less confident days! I usually like my own art best a day or so after I do it! Thanks for your visits and insights! Always appreciated!

  6. I always enjoy your view into the lives of the restaurant people. As always, I couldn't tell you which of these wonderful sketches is my favorite. I think your husband is a real doll! And he must be so patient to let you sketch him. I agree with Giggles. I wouldn't want anyone checking out my sketches. It's my lack of self confidence, I guess. Oh, and I just love that you caught the lady in purple and pink so well.

    1. Thanks Faye! Half the time my husband, "the doll", has no idea I am sketching him! Glad you enjoy the folks capture in my surroundings! I love turning them into characters for my art journal!
